Tuna Upgrades.....

Post by dnslater » Mon Oct 14, 2013 5:19 pm

So after planning a Tuna purchase for awhile and lusting after the SBBN015 for years I picked up Mark's SBBN007 a few weeks ago. SBBN015's are hard to come by and expensive so when Mark's popped up I couldn't resist at that price. As soon as I had it incoming I ordered a few parts from Harold.

Here it is stock:

Here it is after brushing the shroud:

Here after adding Hex head screws and a Strapcode oyster bracelet:

And today the package arrived from Hong Kong with Harold's new DLC engraved bezel insert. This replaces the PVD version he has offered the past few years. Has a similar brushed finish to the SBBN015 but with fat numbers and raised Lume pip. I also ordered his Hammer bracelet with his machined "Albacore" clasp. Very impressed with this clasp. Underside is nicely contoured and uber comfortable. Liked the new Tuna bracelet but didn't like the ratcheting clasp as it was uncomfortable when I had a MM300 so I went the Yobokies route.

That is quite transformation. I've been wanting a hammer for my 017, but haven't got around to getting one yet.

Great work and congrats.

I recommend getting that clasp with it. Only $60 for the combo. Nicely balances the head.

Looks great. Did you brush the shroud yourself?

Yes. Started with a Scotchbrite, then 400 grit sandpaper, then my wife's 4 sided nail buffer to add a little shine.

Awesome work on the shroud. If you hadn't told me you modded it I would have thought it was factory. And I love me some Tuna. Nicely done!

Great mods.
Last time I emailed Harold, he told me that he's considering not making another batch of the sapphire crystals for the tuna when he sells out of the current batch. The price has for the sapphire has gone up considerably this past year or two.

So if anyone wants the sapphire to replace the hardlex or just to have a spare, should consider picking one up now. Jack has the crystal also but I don't know how many he has left.

I'm a bracelet snob when it comes to the Tuna (015 bracelet is awesoem) for some reason-ok it's probably that one 5-linker everyone puts on them of which I forget the name-but that bracelet looks very nice.

Good work all around bud it looks great.

Nice. :)

Personal preference on bezel is SS, but the mods look great overall.

Have to say I agree with Matt on this. Don't care much for the bezel insert. Doesn't mean I wouldn't take it as is and wear it like the hot bad boy it is, 'cause I sure as hell would!!
