Back from the dead!!!!

Post by toxicavenger » Sat Aug 24, 2013 3:07 pm

Just got this back after about 2 years of bullshit and it looks great. All I need now is some Seiko 20mm fat bars for it since I gave those away to a fellow member trying to help him out.

Either way this watch had to be sent to Seiko Japan since somewhere along the line the movement got damaged. But Seiko want to replace the case and the movement since the case is modified for $1650.00 bones. I decided to pass on that and just get the movement fixed and that ran a total of $485 including shipping.

I have to give a shout out to Joe @ AZ Time for helping me out with Seiko Japan and Jack@IWW for fixing the botched up crown/tube/stem install Ken Setser did to it.

Here is some pics:

One other thing is it a triple gasket crown setup installed so it actually sits higher out of the case than the og version which sits flush in the case.

Damn, Terry, glad to see you finally got that one back! Seems like you were just posting about that not long ago. looks great! So is the crown job a trip lock? I know Ken really f'd that whole thing up so curious as to what is not stock on it. Lots of MM love around here.

Awesome. I would consider that mod one day when I pick up a MM. but the thought of going thru even half of what you went thru makes me sick just thinking about it.

True and you really don't need this mod, I just thought it would work out a lot different then it actually did. :crybaby:

I always buy my Seiko bars in sets of 10 from topspecus on eBay. I think I gave away the rest of my 20mm diver bars after I sold my Sumo, but I'll check my parts stash and I'll send you some if I have any.

Well, that seems to have worked out–she looks great. How's she running on the wrist?

Oh no shit! I bet if someone told you the journey and time it would take on this, you would have never believed it. It is quite insane actually how it went down.

If I had to do it again I would just get a stem/tube combo from Rob@Monster watches for $80 and have a watchmaker change it out if there was ever a issue. But honestly I was being a dumb ass and just had to get this mod because I listened to internet wisdom telling me how much these strip out. When in actuality that isn't common at all. :crybaby: So yes I was wrong. :banghead:

Glad you got it back buddy!

Hey, A few days ago I was just reading about the triple-gasket crown and your post from when it got FUBAR'd but glad it got sorted out. Great looking watch and cool mod, even if it took a while to get it back.

Woo Hoo! That is great news, dude. More than anything else, you were the one that steered me to buying one. Very very happy for you.

Thanks Henry and I am super glad yours had worked out for you.

Also thanks Cesar/Wu and sharkfin for listening to me vent about what to do along the way when dealing with all of this drama.

Looking good and glad you got it back!

I need some fat bars as well (both 20 & 22mm). Torrid, thanks for the tip on the ebayer, I may need to buy a 10 pack myself (or, 2 I guess)

:excited: Awesome it back! Long expensive journey for your MM.
Reminds me of the same for mine. :banghead:

At least Seiko turned it around quicker than what I had to endure.

So, all is good and its water proof tested?

Enjoy that baby, been quite the rollercoaster ride.

Glad you got that pos back! Damn I'm glad my "old turds" already have a trip-crown!

-am I the one you sent spring bars to? You've sent me so many miscellaneous things I can't remember. And regardless I have some 20mm fats you can have.

-all stock except crown? What happened to the sapphire crystal?

-cant believe Seiko wanted to charge that much for a case

-did you get it pressure tested? Does the crown work as it should?
