Seiko replacement dial with good luminosity?

Post by cuad » Mon Aug 19, 2013 6:56 am

Hello all,

I recently modded a Seiko 6309 diver with a new aftermarket dial, but the lume on it lasts only about 10 minutes after wearing it in the daylight about two hours. After seeing some of the lume shots in this and other forums, I'm wondering if there are any other aftermarket options that will shine brighter.

Any direction you guys can offer in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cuad

All the Seiko aftermarket dials (and handsets for that matter) I've ever seen blow chimp. I like that Seiko has aftermarket everything etc and I've been thinking and waiting for a while for higher quality stuff-albeit more expensive-but who cares-give me the quality!!!

6308 Diver? Never seen one.

The good thing about Seiko diver's is that all of the dials are about the same diameter. I would use a modern dial somehow made to work with the older movements.

So I guess the answer is to send off to IWW or Kent Everest etc for a primo lume job.

I wouldn't spend the money on a lume job for an aftermarket dial. And I would be hesitant to screw up a perfectly good vintage dial...

Neither would I, but if someone was inclined to try it, does anyone have a way to contact either of the sources mentioned above?

Terry had the dial of a 7548 re-lumed a while ago. It came out pretty nice.

Terry, who did you use?

WTF not  It's not going to be that much is it? I guess I have no idea how much it costs.

Anyways I wrote a Haiku about it:

It's not really about the cost. It's like buying an ISOfrane for your fake PO. It looks better but it's still a fake POS.

I had this one done by JakeB a long while ago.
Unfortunately, he doesn't have time to do lume jobs any longer. IIRC.

That haiku was pretty but I thought using a season in haikus takes them over the top. " to dominate the winter night air "

I have used IWW and Everestwatch works and they both run about 115 for hands and dial. IWW doesn't take as long as Everest but Everest lume jobs are amazing and second to none.

Aftermarket 6309 and 6105 fakes have horrible lume. Nothing anyone can do about it.

If you are looking for a lume job I've only used jack at IWW so far. Did a decent job. Nothing mind blowing but decent.

If you want an aftermarket dial that shines like an mf'r I suggest Harold yobokies. They are the brightest aftermarket I've seen.

I've had aftermarket dials from jake 10watches and they were ok, not as bright as yobokies though.

If your looking for a classy BJ send Terry a Pm and get some travel plans for Colarado.

I would go to Seiko citizens watch forum, SCWF, and search for a real vintage dial to put back in your 6309. Then I'd buy an skx if I wanted a watch that could lite up the room.

Jack at IWW- Luminova
Jay at MCWW- noctilumina
Dimitris at The Relumer- luminova
I have used them all to relume dials. Jay and Jack take time---- many weeks
Dimitris is about 2 weeks or so
Dimitris lays it on thick and the glow blasts!!! Since I started this mod craze I find the aftermarket dials suck for lume and I personnally will relume any watch that is going to come apart anyway for mod parts

If you like a lumed watch spend some money. most of the jobs Ive had done cost $75 plus shipping when just sending dial and hands. The whole watch will cost $100+ or so.

Terry is all abut the ball play.

As for the aftermarket dial, just resume the original and stay away from the replica dials.

Hey isn't Demitris in Spain? And you sent a watch all the way there with no issues?

And MCWW uses Ken Parks (Everest Watch Works) for their lume jobs.

Dimitris is in Greece and the two dials I had done have gone and come back with no issue. Sent the first one 1st class USPS mail and took 17 days without tracking ( kinda scared me). The second I sent priority mail 3-5 days with tracking and made it there in 3. Cost difference is $25 for 1st class/ $46 for priority. I guess you will have to factor that in to your cost. I recieved each one back within 5-8 days after completion of lume job ( about 3 weeks tops ) Still is faster than most of the US lumers. Dimitris is easy to deal with, shoot him an email with pic of watch or dial and he will send a price quote. Then let him know when you send it.

FYI Dimitris used to live in Maryland USA
