Seiko SKXA35 Yellow 200m Diver- Rising Sun
Seiko SKXA35 Yellow 200m Diver- Rising Sun
Hello. I just received this watch from my wife for our anniversary. I had this watch years ago before I was into forums and I foolishly sold it on Amazon when it started losing time. I wore this watch for many years- at my wedding, birth of my first and more. I always regretted selling it.
My wife came through, this is the only SKX that I've had new with box and all.
I don't think this watch has a cool nick-name like other Seiko divers so I came up with Rising Sun. It was up against- yellow fever, banana ninja, sunny samurai, yella belly, bumble bee, ninja bee, hornet shogun, banana cream bukkake, water hornet, kiiro Americana and some others.
One thing is for sure, this dial is bright. The lume is incredible, and it adds flavor to a black 007 dial. It came with a flat vent strap which I've somehow never owned. It's a bit more giving and soft than the big vent Z22's. This along with the SKX173 are the USA market version of Japan's SKX007 and others, having a slightly different dial with the pointed 12 o'clock market and having the meatball on the front end of the seconds hand and not the back end.
It is keeping great time so far, being worn and placed crown up when not worn it is only gaining a few seconds- very impressive for the 7s26, especially since I've had some run super fast and slow.
I took multiple pictures mainly on my ikea table in my sunroom, which I love to do, please see:]

After trying all these straps out it feels best (IMO) on the Phoenix Admiralty Grey NATO and looks best on the black zulu. I wanted to take these pics before I install a sapphire dome- I knew Cesar would throw a fit that it's been modded; you know because modding a $200 watch is a sin.
I also thought about getting a black day and date wheel ad well as a dome, what do you guys think?
On with the pics-

Hey pal - congrats on the very cool Seiko and Happy Ammiversary!!!!
As for the date wheel, I'd normally say black w/white numbers, but the white wheels seem to balance well against the 9 o'clock marker - I'd leave it as is.
I do agree with the NATO. While doing a sapphire crystal isn't a sin, I'd wait until the Hardlex is fubar and then change it out. I kinda like the Hardlex, it reminds me of old school plexi a little.

Very cool, Ben. Leave that thing stock, bud.
Re: Seiko SKXA35 Yellow 200m Diver- Rising Sun
Congrats on the anniversary and the watch.
I had one and it was noticed and complimented on a lot. That dial is a great color and the lume is fantastic. I liked mine on a black with a thin yellow striped zulu.
The date wheel looks fine, a dome might change the feel of the dial.Do what you like with it but it is perfect as is.

Why do I feel like I am reading some "newbie's" post and not one of Ben's dickweed thread's????

Cool story and cool watch. It's better without a nickname. Don't force it.
Re: Seiko SKXA35 Yellow 200m Diver- Rising Sun
Love it. Don't change the date wheel.

That's a very thoughtful gift from your wife. Did you have to point it out to her, or did you talk about your old watch enough that she took the initiative on her own? My anniversary is coming up this month... I doubt I'm getting a watch.
Re: Seiko SKXA35 Yellow 200m Diver- Rising Sun
Awesome pick up!
Happy anniversary!
I've always loved and wanted this one.
Just never happened, but I still dig it.
Great on that nato too!

One of my favorite seikos. Always look to add this one and the orange dial.

Thanks guys!
Yeah I guess ill leave the date wheel alone.
I still might go for a dome in time. I used to hate domes back in the day and only went for flat crystals- my taste has changed. It shouldn't take too long for the stock crystal to get scratched up as my other one collected scratches frequently.
Cesar- it's Rising Sun. You can still call it banana cream bukkake if you want.
Terry- don't know if I should say "thanks" or "FUTerry".

Yeah I usually don't get much that I like for gifts from my wife and she knows it. This was 5 year anny and I knew she would try harder. I've always said I regretted selling it and she knew it. I knew she was going to get it.JP Chestnut wrote:That's a very thoughtful gift from your wife. I bought her gift almost 2 years ago, another wedding band to match her original. Was afraid they would stopping that design so I bought if early and it's been sitting in my pipe tobacco chest since.
I think she made out on the deal-

Buying/receiving gifts for/from the wife is such a touchy thing. I've picked up some really great gifts for her over the years, but how much jewelry does a women (who doesn't wear much jewelry) really need? It's even worse on her end. I could tell she spent a lot of time thinking about my last birthday gift, which was a nice 20 watch box. When I opened it up, the little watch pillows were large and somewhat hard. So much so that I couldn't close any of my bracelets around them (I have a small wrist). My wife was so bummed out and I felt like shit for her. I almost kept the damn box, but she realized it wouldn't work.BBK357 wrote:Yeah I usually don't get much that I like for gifts from my wife and she knows it. This year's our 4th anniversary and our first since having a child. Next year I'm buying her a Rolex Lady Datejust for our 5th, so I kept it simple this year.

Yeah take a break then get her something nice for 5th year. I always spend more on her; she is a Scrooge. That's why all my watches are only a couple hundred, if she knew how much they cost she'd stab me. I keep telling her that her rings are worth more than my watches to calm her down sometimes when I get a new one...
Here's the band I got her along with her others-

Domed crystal? Throw in the "ProProf" hands in at the same time.

If I were to change anything, it would just be to add black outlined skx hands. The polished outline doesn't fit IMO. Oh, and i also don't like the meatball tipped second hand. Great watch though! It's pretty cool on jubilee as well.
Re: Seiko SKXA35 Yellow 200m Diver- Rising Sun
Very nice
Black date would really make it though
If you are going to mod it, change the hands to black
I have the yellow Di300 Tutima and that is exactly what I would do
Great watch. And. Just because it costs $200 doesn't mean it's cheap. Just a great buy
