Anyone else have the Dagaz Typhoon pre-ordered?

Post by rammerjammer » Wed Dec 19, 2012 6:28 pm

Really looking forward to the 6105 inspired Typhoon from Dagaz. If the Tsunami was any indication then it out to be something special. Here's my two current XW / Dagaz watches. Silver dial is Tsunami 62/100 and the black dial started out as a Zero I. Ditched the PVD bezel and crown, added Jake's smoked superdome sapphire. Also canned the 7S26 in favor of a 6R15. It's my de facto Tsunami!

I know I will regret not pre-ordering, but will wait to see a few in real life shots.

Sorry to say the pre-order period has past. All is not lost however... Jake will make some Typhoons available for sale. Even if you miss that there will be plenty of flippers. Always are.

Heard that Eddie from TimeFactors was doing a 6105 homage as well. Only with a Miyota. Is it me or does that seem sacrilegious?

I missed the per-order too, and yes - it does seem a bit odd. That said, I'd like to see more stuff with he Miyota 9015, so hopefully tats what Eddie will use. Heck, Jake is using it in that new 1st Cav model....

On an unrelated note; I told Mike @CountyComm to consider a diver in the 42-44mm size, running the 9015, as a "Maratac Diver" model to complement the Pilot. I told him if they could do that and keep it around $300-400 it would be a hit.

Personally I wish boutique watch companies would use the Seiko 6R15/NE15 in lieu of the 9015. The Miyota is robust but lacks some of the features (like a bi-directional rotor) that should be found in a higher end movement imo. And it does that creepy stutter/jump. Of course they can't as the Seiko movements are nearly impossible to find since the typhoon. No pun intended.
Feel the same way about the ETA 2824 being supplanted by the 9015. It's not it in the same league yet we're being lead to believe it is. There's nothing "wrong" with the Miyota per se. Just don't think it should command the premium of the better/more advanced movements or replace the vaunted Swiss ones in the micro divers.
That's my two cents anyway...

Update:

Dagaz: yesterday

Assembling the latest, and hopefully final prototypes of the Typhoon tonight/tomorrow morning.

Dagaz:

The first wrist-shot of the latest Typhoon prototype. This one's housing a SII NH25, "Pilot" dial, 6105 style white hands, Dagaz-Tech crown and metallic smoke 12hr GMT insert, and will be the subject of much abuse. A slightly different 6R15 based version will be assembled later on.

I apologize for bumping an old thread but I kinda missed out on the whole Dagaz Typhoon thing including the pre-order. Can I ask what the pre-order cost of the watch was? I was maybe hoping to pick one up on the used market after the release but I need to know how much I need to save up :) Thanks!

Pre-order price was $600 with 50% due upfront, I believe.

Thanks Matt! I found a thread on watchfreeks after I posted. You are correct, $600 with 1/2 upfront for preorder and $650 for the ones he'll sell outright.
