An old friend, back in the fold.....

Post by Tallguy » Mon Oct 22, 2012 12:48 am

If I had half a brain, I would have kept this combo the first time I bought it years ago and been done with this watch business......after surviving on g-shocks for the last couple of months, I broke down and bought a new one and an SEL oyster from StrapCode....total combo cost about $230 and some patience for shipping time, but this sucker feels so at home on the wrist its not even funny. With all of the slick modding that is done to these, I realized that I love the stock dial and hands the best, and this one is running a couple of seconds slow per day out of the box so I really couldn't ask for more. Lume is of course outstanding. Watch funds are nonexistent for the foreseeable future so this and the g's are it for a while, but I'm quite content.....sorry for the quick and crappy bberry pic... :crybaby:

I love the straight-forward minimalistic design. Value for money? Seiko.

$179 on strap from WatchesU on ebay, but it took a while to get here :banghead: You see a lot of them being flipped on the forums for close to retail, but you never know if someone happened to get a wonky crown or one 30 seconds off per day. I prefer taking my chances on NIB at this price range. But you can't beat strapcode; they have a heavy duty jubilee, as well as a few other options besides the oyster, all with perfectly fitting SELs at very reasonable prices.

yeah that is one of the best watches out their for the price. I still dig my 7548 which is basically the same watch but quartz. maybe next time I will get a 009.

That's a future classic! It comes from a long line of moderately-priced, well-built dive watches.

6217-8000
6105-8000
6105-8110
6309-7040/6306-7001
6309-7290
7002-7000
7S26-0020 (SKX007)

Best wishes,
Myles

I'm not sure about that. I think the 6217 was released in '65 or thereabouts. When did the Submariner first hit the market?

Best wishes,
Myles
