I collect stuff that goes with my Militray watches a few pilot wings

Post by River Rat » Thu Aug 24, 2017 11:54 am

I picked up this a few weeks ago a US Navy crew members wings WW2 era since my Dad was a ball turret gunner on a avenger Torpedo air craft to fight the axis powers in the pacific.

And a grouping of wings

US Navy WW2 crew members wings and US Army Pilots and Navigators wings, Czech Pilots wings and Canadian Pilot and Navigators wings. I did a post over at MWR Forum about these and a cool member PM me and ask if I wanted her Uncle Clifford Camp RCAF wings and US Army Air Force wings at no charge got them today. Americans broke the law before the US got into the war if they went across the boarder to Join the RCAF to kick NAZI ass people forget today what the NAZI did and most look the other way sad for America there the same ideas they had in WW2 as now no different there nothing but slim. This guy broke US neutrality law to join the RCAF way before the USA got smart we need to get smart again it looks like. Then transferred to the US Army Air Force when we got into the war. His RCAF wings and hat badge and button off his uniform and his US wings. Some info on Americans joining the RCAF

Here is a interesting story of a RCAF American Pilot who attacked a dam. Funny thing my Dad squadron in the Korean war used the only torpedo to destroy a dam.

Very cool! My dad was a radioman in the navy air force and my step dad was a gunner in the Air Force. My grandfather flew B-17's all in WW2. Thanks for sharing the great memorabilia and personal medals and pics. It's hard to argue that they were the greatest generation.

Nice! I'd love to sit down with a WWII veteran and hear their stories.

Here is a interesting story of a RAF pilot who was born in Germany and Jewish his story could be turned into a movie stuff you find on the net doing research. Mite have to get the book about him. He was also a POW if the Germans found out he was a Jewish would of been dead in an instant.

Here is a link for the book about this RAF Pilot mite have to order it.

Yes he did. WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. He was 16 years old when he enlisted. He started out in PBY's in the Aleutian's Islands when the Japanese invaded them. Later he transferred to Avenger torpedo aircraft on aircraft carriers as a ball turret gunner and flight engineer he was on the USS Bunker Hill when it got hit by a kamikaze off Okinawa he also help sink the Japanese battleship Yamato. During Korea his squadron used the only torpedo in the war to blow up a dam. In Vietnam he worked with the US Army as a flight engineer on Chinooks and Huey's picking up damage vehicles and equipment for salvage so a sitting duck hoovering over stuff to pick up he said once the pilot got wounded once. To this day I don't know how I did 22 years and never got the call to go to war but the cold war was just showing your muscles for a stalemate came close with the first gulf war they made us do our wills and then it was over so fast we did not get the call.

16!

My Grandfather was an Army Infantry enlistment at 15yo as a runaway from a bad home out of Minneapolis. Looked much older than his age (and like Elvis). His age was eventuality confirmed at 17 after marrying my Grandmother (age 19) out of Blackpool, England. He was thrown into the brig for 30 days, sent home briefly, then renlisted at 18 with the Aircorps under honorable conditions and served another 22. They were married for 58yrs before he passed-on

My favorite medal of his is an commendation medal which he received just before the birth of my aunt (my mom was the youngest and his first died after birth at the hands of nurses). The reason is he put a 4 leaf clover inside of the plastic casing, which has since disintegrated, but for good luck upon my aunt's arrival

Well I added some stuff this week to go with my US Navy ships clocks. I bought two climometers they had them on the bridge of the ship. It told you in degrees how bad the ship is rolling and in a typhoon you see it do some weird stuff.

I will touch up the white paint for the lettering and mount it on a wooden plaque this is a WW2 one.

And this one made around WW1 made by Graff, Washbourne & Dunn were New York silversmiths but during WW1 made stuff for the US Navy I think this one is cooler and got it cheap was under the radar found it by accident on Ebay not many bidders. The WW2 one cost me more dam it. I do got US navy ships clocks from WW1 and WW2 so they will go good in the collection.

Got one of them in the mail all ready and fixed her up for hanging on the wall next to one of the ships clock. A little white paint and brasso and had a spare piece of wood I had in the garage I cut to the right size and a little sanding and varnish and done.
