Help sourcing vintage watch bezel : )

Post by lafayette1987 » Fri Jul 21, 2017 11:57 am

I have been searching high & low, and scouring the forums & ebay to no avail. hoping you all may be able to help : )

Long + short of it -- I have a vintage Dorly Water Elf and acquired it sans bezel. Apparently the original watch came w/ four bezels; a tachymeter, countdown bezel, world timer, and polished. Quite cool.

I've been able to back into measurements from another collector in Australia who measured in interior and exterior diameter. Does anyone have floating around their parts pile they're willing to part with? :shifty:

Or even have a similar era diver that matches this so I can focus my search on eBay for parts watches I know will work?

Or a parts supplier or seller you'd recommend?

Interior Diameter: 31.5MM
Interior Diameter to underside lip: 33.7MM
Exterior Diameter: 36.43

Attached are some lo-fi mocks that I made of the measurements for a friend to help render in cad. Have begun exploring getting one machined or trying to 3D print.

Thanks for any + all help. Mean it.

After dealing with a vintage Doxa 300T with no bezel and there more of those around there was no bezel any one was willing to give up I sold it for parts years ago. I stay away from a bezel less watches. That one looks cool even with it missing. You best bet is to buy a parts vintage diver were the bezel looks like it's from that era even if it loose and not fit right to work and just glue it on for looks if it bothers you with out a bezel. There was one guy that kept posting over here for a bezel ring for a bulova snorkel dive watch when they were cheap to buy one for a parts watch that's what I told him but every few weeks he would repost I am looking for a bezel and if he still has no bezel for it getting one for a parts watch has double in price. Good luck on your hunt. I avoid vintage dive watches missing bezel after that Doxa 300T were finding a bezel was like finding a needle in haystack.

Like Mike said, needle in a haystack. You never know though, so keep searching.

BTW, one of the things that I like most about collecting vintage divers is just when you think that you've seen it all, something unknown pops up. "Water Elf" - how cool is that?

ha thanks. and yes the name is a little questionable, but the watch has a lot of charm to it.

can't wait for the day I find the bezel and bring this back to its full glory.

Have had some luck buying a vintage NOS diver case on Ebay. Like this Ebay number 272799444391 or this 272772036066

Not sure if it's allowed to post a link to a Ebay auction.
Found this. A stainless steel could be made by someone that has a lathe. http://hackingseconds.com/Ben/117/
