wife's grandpa's PW just back from restoration...

Post by gr8sw » Tue Oct 18, 2016 3:57 pm

MIL found her Dad's watch in beat-up condition, so I had a local PW specialist work his magic! pretty cool to imagine when every well-heeled gent carried one of these... it's only about 45mm, so PAM size

it was missing the crystal, broken hour hand and was in pretty bad shape mechanically...

Looks like your watchmaker found the proper replacement hands looks like a perfect match. Looks good I also got my Grandpa pocket watch it's what started me collecting watches.

Nice. Good looking and uncommon pocket watch.

You mite be right about the crystal. But when I was into pocket watches over 20 years ago when I first got into this hobby I use to buy lots of pocketwatch crystal with over 100 crystal lots thin and the thick beveled crystal of various sizes for about 20 bucks one of the few things I use to be able to do replace the crystal most pocketwatch crystal are glued in not pressed in like wristwatches but that octagon shape would be hard to find. Pocketwatch crystals hard to get were the ones that went on the early fusse double case the hand blown high dome type over 200 years old.

new crystal had to be hand-cut for the pentagon shape ;)

all in all, $220 for the resto, more than it's worth, other than the sentimental value...
