Some thing just in RAF issued Omega 6B/542 53

Post by River Rat » Thu Apr 21, 2016 12:48 pm

Just picked this up should of got one of these a long time ago when prices were better. This is large for 1953 this was issued to the RAF in 1953 a Omega 6B/542 the case 37mm with 18mm fixed lugs. With a hand wind 17 jewel cal.283 none hacking movement. This one has a mod replacement dial called the fat arrow. The case is built like a tank and looks great on the wrist. I ordered a grey NATO a day after I bought the watch dam the watch came from Washington DC and it beat Terry's strap to MT. But the grey will look better than this green one. I really like this watch.

Nice one, Mike! Do you know when the "fat arrow" dial got installed? Some cool history on those RAF issued watches. Congrats!

The first dial was the thin arrow they switched them out due to radioactive lume. The one with the thin arrow dial are worth double even with the wrong hands saw a few on ebay sell for some crazy price due to the dial with the wrong hands. I can do some home work for the time frame probably in the 1960's. One thing I read some were is Omega got there design idea for the Railmaster from this watch does look similar and a whole lot cheaper than a vintage Omega Railmaster.

 holy shit that's some reserve!

Mike, did the MOD instruct Omega to switch out the radioactive dials?

Mod did it them self if you look on the net for a thin arrow dial they got better detail because Omega made them. Think MOD made the fat arrow dials. A better photo of the watch dam the older I get the crappier my photo's get.

Peter don't make me older than I am. Was born in 58. Was looking for a RAF Omega 58 but double the price of a 53 so went for the 53 much cheaper.

Peter people of our age not many cool watches we can afford for a birth year watch. You should get a Omega 53 not a bad size and being military issue right up your ally. Wished I could of got a Omega 58 but the one offered me the guy wanted 4000 and then 3500 there are fewer of the 58's but the 53 was cheaper by halve. Looks like the birth year watch is on hold for me now but this one you could swing it due to the price halve the cost it would cost me for a 58.
