Sounds like my kind of deal. And, my exact thoughts when I think back to my lack of foresight! Sold a Speedy pro, mid-90's for $1600 a few years ago. Hell, thought I hit a home run. What a dumb shit I was. Oh well, fuck it!Steve O. wrote:Jealousy? How about stupidity? Sold one of these a few years back for what was then the outrageous sum of $1,800. Nice thing about this one is that event though it is close to 50 years old, it wears like a modern dive watch. Many of those old divers wear very small today.

Good idea. I saw somewhere that in addition to the waffle strap, wjean now offers repros of the 731 and "chocolate bar" strap. Cool!jswing wrote:It is the original strap. And it's surprisingly pliant and not brittle. Still, I have a couple of wjean's repro straps coming. I don't plan to baby this watch, I'll be wearing it regularly, but I think I'll put the strap away.Steve O. wrote:Appears to have come with its original XGL-731 strap, which is almost as rare as the watch itself. Well done indeed.

I ordered a waffle and 731 for my 6105 before I even bought this. I really like this 731 so I look forward to getting wjeans.Steve O. wrote:Good idea. Yeah, his repros are pretty good. For a while, at the beginning, the waffles even had the correct Seiko markings, and were identical to the originals.jswing wrote:I ordered a waffle and 731 for my 6105 before I even bought this. Roger, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. But one thing I'm really enjoying about Seiko is that it's feasible to acquire a "grail". Back in my Panerai days, getting a vintage, or even a pre-v wasn't even a consideration.

Congratulations, what an absolute beauty! Definitely save the original strap and wear it with one of the wjean repros
Re: Seiko 6159-7001
It's a good thing. I'll definitely pick up a PAM next year, but I'll stick with a pedestrian 372, or the like; definitely not a vintage or LE. Although, 203 prices have "plummeted" 30k over the past several years into the 70k rangejswing wrote:Roger, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Wow, they're only $70K now? Time to re-think things.mechnut wrote:It's a good thing. The 203 is certainly nice, but even back then I couldn't quite figure out how they were costing basically what an original vintage cost. The 6152 4 liner was my fantasy watch, but of course it was only ever going to be a fantasy.
