Next project :)

Post by Graeme » Wed Jun 11, 2014 3:57 pm

Ok we have one correct answer and one very close answer

Pens is the correct answer ..... Well done ;)

The wood is pretty special, it's thousands of years old!! Normally between 2,000 and 6,000 years. It is ancient Irish bog oak. It comes from oak trees that fell into peat bogs thousands of years ago and were preserved. The wood is a very dark colour almost black and is quite rare.

I will be turning the bog oak into really nice pens, ball point and fountain pens. So if any of you guys are into pens then this is for you. I have a bit of work to do to the oak so I hope to have some done in a week or so, and I will post up some photos for you guys.

That's awesome! Interested on a roller ball.

So... changing the subject... where are we on the SAS Air Dubh Linn?

(ps. looking forward to seeing the results, Graeme! I'd be into an SAS pen to match the AIR...)

Awesome! Asking this bunch if they are into something is like throwing a new drug in a crack house. Short answer: yes. Better make a few extra actually. I've never had a fountain pen, but I might have to give one of yours a shot. ;)

Now, if it was going to be for building beaver dams, then I'd say it would definitely be to keep the beavers in. Nobody likes loose beaver.

Does the wood smell like beer? ;)

I'd be interested in a bl point. Maybe make it compatible with the Fisher Space Pen cartridge, as those are great.

I will soak one in Guinness for you :)

Fisher cartridges will be possible. the pens I'm making will take Cross or Parker refills and Fisher make both a Cross and a Parker version of their refill so it will be possible to use one.

Excellent! I'll probably end up buying one of those and a fountain pen. I'm saying thank you in advance - my wife will curse you.

First thing that came to my mind was a watch with a hardwood case. I kinda like that idea in fact.
