Family Vacation - recommendations
I am looking for ideas on places to vacation in April or May. I would prefer a spot to rent a house on the beach or close to it. The discussions have gotten out of hand at home and I need help narrowing it down. Ease of access is a concern as well. I will be flying out of Utah and would prefer to limit travel time as much as possible.
We have considered:
Puerto Rico
Bahamas
Belize
Cancun
Florida Keys
Virgin Islands
All my wife cares about is a beautiful beach nearby. I can be tempted by golf, scuba or snorkeling. Seeing other cool stuff like pyramids near Cancun would be a plus as well.

I did my honeymoon in Belize...beautiful country and friendly people. Great snorkeling, fishing, and Mayan ruins. However, if I was renting a house for myself there I would want to make sure it was pretty secure. If you haven’t already, read up (particularly the expat forums) and you’ll see what I mean.
I’m sure it’s the same most places though, even in the US.

Yeah, I have read some scary stuff about Belize. We looked at some places on VRBO that were near the tourist areas and seemed pretty secure, but it is still worrying me. I would be good with a resort, but my wife wants to be away from the crowds to a degree. I think we will run into similar problems renting houses in most of the places I mentioned though.Chocodove wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 12:32 pmI did my honeymoon in Belize...beautiful country and friendly people. If it’s possibly an option for you, there are private island resorts off the coast that are about as far away from touristy and crowded as you can imagine. I stayed at an all-inclusive that could only have about maybe 25 people stay there max (adults only) and was a 15 minute boat ride to the reef. Pretty sure there are others that are open to families. Stay away from Ambergris Cay if you want a less touristy experience.Brimstone wrote:Yeah, I have read some scary stuff about Belize. That sounds pretty nice. My youngest is 15 which apparently everywhere considers an adult anyway for booking purposes.Chocodove wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 12:51 pmIf it’s possibly an option for you, there are private island resorts off the coast that are about as far away from touristy and crowded as you can imagine. Ha...we actually ended up finding a really awesome house on the beach in Puerto Rico which we have booked for the end of April. Beginning to look like that is going to get pushed out if this pandemic doesn’t go away.ChuckW wrote:Wally World!
