New Wallet.

Post by sierra11b » Tue Jan 29, 2019 2:08 pm

My Roo Leather RM Williams wallet from Americandave (gift exchange from years ago) started to break down at the threads but ironically not at the clear ID window, so I started my search for a new wallet even though I could likely stretch it to another 24months. Great thin-leather wallet btw if you're keen... I'm thinking of getting another just to have: Click bait

But I wanted something higher quality than RM Williams, made in the USA, and more refined than my Saddleback bifold. The Saddleback is stuffed in a drawer after 3 months of use -- Great wallet but I got the RL Williams at the same time. Might list it.

Contacted Jason of Monk Made and he made this Bourbon Shell with Whisky Walpier Buttero at request in his Japanese-inspired Archbishop design which works around my George Costanza needs of receipt expenditures with the single stitched hidden compartments.

Took about 4 weeks to arrive and the correspondence was great. Wasn't cheap... three bills to be exact but I think you'd loose $50-80 if all Walpier Buttero, which is a fantastic veg tanned leather available in tons of colors unlike a chrome tanned leather.

Amazing quality that will likely need at least a year before the break-in period even begins. Always takes a bit of time getting used to a new wallet after years of using another design, but this one should last well over a decade me thinks.

That looks awesome. Should give you service, and look good doing it, for years to come.

Wallet looks beautiful, but whenever I buy a high priced wallet like that I feel like George.

Every wallet I've ever owned has lasted for YEARS and YEARS. It's something that I think makes sense to spend money on.

Yep. I had this one cut for the Costanza effect (see pic 5) for receipt expenditures. It's not perfect and not pretty because it's not broken-in, but there's currently ten receipts in that compartment with about 40 due by the end of next month before coming due for the old expense report.

If you have a baby face like me and get carded often, then the RM Williams linked in the OP is a great wallet to own. They're no longer listed on their site so they're technically NOS.

Send him a email to see what he can make, even if it's a minimalist style (open face three card with single fold *see pic*), or a bi-fold made from entirely buttero which will cut costs by 25% of more vs. cordovan exterior. While nice, and as you know, cordovan isn't necessary in a wallet, and might actually be counter productive in the break-in given it's rigidity.

Ashland seems to make a good wallet, but they seem to be machine stitched and not worth the equal premium it unless they're running a sale on inventory.

I’ve had a colonel Littleton front pocket wallet for about a year now and I’m really happy with it. Great little wallet that does everything I need it to.

I've been using a Hartmann for so long I'm not sure where I got it, or what I paid for it.

A quality wallet lasts. Bought a Context leather wallet about 5 years ago. Should last another 5 or more. Only potential failure will be the card slots expanding too far so cards slip out too easily.

After many years of leather only wallets and having some nice handmade ones, I switched to a Ogon Aluminum wallet and don’t think I can ever go back. I never thought I would as I was always a staunch leather wallet carrier, but I love this wallet.

I’ve been using a Saddleback front pocket wallet for years. The good is it holds everything I need and the lack of a plastic window over the license sleeve makes it super easy to access your ID for TSA checkpoints.

The bad is my credit cards (2 cards per slot) rub against each other and the magnetic strips are now pretty worn.

I may look into one of those aluminum wallets. It isn’t that I’m worried about RFID theft, but if it keeps the cards from wearing out it might be worth it.

I prefer slim wallets, this is the latest one I have (bought it about three years ago):

They carry models with RFID blocking too.

this one looks very cool. I have a somewhat similar one but it doesn't have those pockets inside. May have to try this one out

Ok, I’m old. I don’t get how an aluminum wallet works for butt pocket carry. A leather wallet conforms to your butt, aluminum looks like it would just dig into your ass.

Someone here turned me on to Makr a couple years ago and I’m still using their flap wallet. I’ve bought some since but go back every time.
