Re: MacBook Owners - keep it plugged in!
My wife’s ASUS has been plugged in on her desk from day 1, can’t unplugged it now, battery life is 1.2 seconds. I’m still not sure why she wanted a laptop.
My old dell is on its second battery and cannot be unplugged.
My Lenovo’s fine for now but I’d like to replace it with a MBP in the near future but this thread gives me much pause.
How long do you think before it’s a problem? Do you know of a charge to run cycle that’s will prolong battery life? Yours was charge, run down, charge and got fucked, I have experience with charge, charge, charge and got fucked. I don’t know what to do........

Batteries degrade even when plugged in all the time. I make sure I shut mine down completely every night And I unplug the charger. When I use it it is always plugged in but once a month I run the battery down to 30% or so.

I'd still recommend a MBP.
I've used MBPs since approx 2007. I'm on my 3rd at the moment. The first 2 were supplied by my employer, my current one has performed flawlessly for about 3 yrs. The battery issue isn't that big a problem, as it can be replaced, and keeping it plugged in keep the cycle count down.

All the moderately high-end consumer spec computers are using the same components.
Re: MacBook Owners - keep it plugged in!
ThinkPad users: The Lenovo Power Manger has an "optimize for battery health" charge mode.
So, according to Lenovo, keeping charge level moving between 46 and 50% is best for battery longevity. If battery stays at or near full charge, it is recommended you select Optimize for battery health to set Battery Health Mode. Battery Health Mode immediately discharge your battery to 50% and set to stop charging at 50% and start charging at 46%. You can also create your own stop and start thresholds by selecting Custom charge threshold and entering your preferred values.
