I recommend you try the DAS on to size it. I am a medium in most Patagonia clothes, but the medium DAS was massive on me. It is because it is designed for layering multiple clothing pieces underneath.

Edit - just realized Todd already covered this

I had an issue with my Nano puff threads coming loose. The way it was stitched, when one thread came loose it basically unraveled. That's on of the only Patagonia items that disappointed me. I returned it less than a week after purchase. Now I wear their standard down sweater for casual stuff. It works fine, but the nano looked much nicer.

I’m not military, but I’ve tried lots of military issued gear (backpacking, hiking, camping), with the thought that it must be great if the military uses it. My findings are the exact opposite. Most of that gear sucks ass. It was made more with the idea of cost as the number 1 goal vs function, comfort, weight and durability.

I have a go-lite goretex rain shell that's 10 years old and still looks new. I love it.

The new brand has a terrible name and logo, but looks well-made and priced. Unfortunately I doubt they'll succeed because of poor branding. If it's lower priced than the competitors, I say give it a go and report back.

This used to work 30 years ago. Then civilians started designing better stuff and it was "better", a lot better. Now our guys have to buy that stuff on the civilian market to be comfortable. The gov bean counters however have no idea what they are bidding on and usually have zero experience in the field. They know only fractions and decimal points. That is how they got that job. So as stated what big military ends up with is the lowest bid and it ends up being a big quantity of low quality stuff, even the guys who get it issued to them won't use it. That is what ends up in surplus.

Wild Things Gear (https://www.wildthingsgear.com/) is a legit, high quality military supplier. They revolutionized the alpine clothing/gear industry back in the early 80's and then went full military contract only several years ago for cold weather systems. I think they only supply to special forces, though.

You can occasionally find closeouts/surplus super cheap on eBay. It's very expensive if you buy direct. Very high quality stuff.

GoLite was a great brand.

I love the official “military supplier” marketing.
I may be slightly cynical, but I a fair amount of business through the DoD, so I have a little insight into some of the negotiating, etc.

For what I paid for the fleece I'd hope it's part of their "not bad" line! The military issued fleece I have cost all of $50 new with tags and it's made better than my North Face fleece that I paid $250 for.

This is very true, though their Base Camp duffels continue to be probably the best product ever made in its class. Otherwise I feel they moved on from their “serious” stuff years ago. Not bad per se, but just not focusing on the professional user anymore. Happens to every outdoor brand eventually. Patagonia is well on their way.

This. Patagonia has become really mainstream and their quality is beginning to suffer. I still love the brand, but it's becoming more common to get a weird sized item, or one with loose threads. Their customer service and warranty are still best in the biz, but I fear that as more people become aware of it, they'll be more likely to exploit it and then they'll have to modify it like LL Bean is considering.
