Arc’teryx is the shit

Post by FlyPenFly » Sun Dec 24, 2017 9:52 am

Although I’m sure they are not as good as when they were a independent brand... I just got myself a Delta LT and a Covert Cardigan... The fit is just Spot On. I’m eyeing the Gamma MX jacket as my next buy. Then maybe a pair of pants. Something kind of good about buying all this shit is that just like when I buy lenses, it motivates me to get out in the wilderness more.

Also, I didn't realize the kind of care you can put into these products, I got some Granger Clean + Repel, ran my 12 year old North Face Apex through it and a mid heat dryer... shocked that it looks 90% of new. I wore that thing through some seriously drunken trips and falls around Manhattan.

I literally stake my life on the gear I wear in the mountains. I will go out in any weather and nothing gives me more confidence when it starts nuking than my Alpha SV.

I worked in the outdoor industry for while and still retain the overwhelming majority of my pro deals, so I can get comparable stuff at wholesale cost. I still gladly pay full price for Arc’teryx.

Do they make flip flops?

Love Arc'teryx! Jackets and long underwear are issued kit at work. One of the pipers in the band is married to an Exec at Arc'teryx, so we had custom jackets made and have shorts/golf shirts for rehearsal kit, when we travel.

PS No Flip Flops Chris...

No, but I do have three pair of their shoes. Well, two shoes and one boot. They’re totally comfortable. They’re at work or I’d send pics.

I absolutely love their stuff. Granted most of it is subsidized and provided by work, but I do buy a ton of their gear on my own and think it’s worth every penny. My wife won’t wear any other cold weather gear now after getting her hooked on A’x about six years ago.

Arc Teryx is my favorite brand of outdoor wear with Patagonia a close second. Arc Teryx has a slimmer, more athletic cut than Patagonia. I have their Beta AR, Atom AR, and some of their gloves. The Beta I’ve had for years and it’s still awesome - spent 5 hours in sleet and snow and it kept me dry the entire time.

Get a lot of it through work; love it. Super-comfortable, tough, and reliable.

Absolutely love their stuff. That said, I usually buy the cheaper Patagonia stuff for my technical outerwear.

Great gear! My wife’s been wearing it for half a dozen years or more. We both have several pieces of their gear. Preferred it when it was exclusively made in Canada. Mountain hardware, Patagonia, north face, marmot and ice breaker also have strong presence in our closets.

Their shit is was to expensive for me. Maybe if was outdoors all the time I would buy it. I only wear Helly Hanson and Mountain Hardware if I can find it on sale. I have a ton of Gerry stuff right now and some Alpine gear (Sports Authority inohouse brand before they closed).

I’m afraid of tearing/snagging those expensive polyester coats while doing real outside work.

I have always seen great reviews for Arc’teryx. With that said, I’m not technical enough for it. I stick with Mountain Hardwear and North Face.

I'm a big fan of Patagonia. It's expensive but the return policy makes it worth it for me. I wore a jacket for a year, wasn't totally satisfied and swapped it out for something much warmer.
