Gifts for Daughters

Post by Grahamcombat » Fri Nov 17, 2017 12:53 pm

I’ve got two daughters that are young now, but we know how that goes. For the boys I have always gotten them a watch for their 16th birthday as a separate gift from Dad, regardless of what wifey & I do.

Any thoughts from you fathers about what to do for daughters? I’d like to do something nice and that could be “heirloom-ish”.

Why not a watch? They’ve got a wrist too.

a pearl necklace or bracelet.
That’s my plan anyway.
It’s a long ways away for me though so I have some time to think.

That’s the plan- because I know I may go overboard on my sons watch.

Diamond studs are a classic.

Pearls are great too.

If so- make it quartz

I’m so done setting my wife’s watches... she’s been wearing a Fitbit for over a year and I’m happy

my struggle is not getting them things, it's keeping them away from ..... piercings, tattoos. Add asshole boyfriends to the list...

no offense to those that have tattoos, or piercings -- I just don't get it personally, and will fight my 3 daughters on it.

Amen! I bought my wife an auto and she destroyed it. Nobody can figure out how, and I’m not paying to get it fixed because it’s the same as buying it twice. Pissed me off so much that I bought NOMADZ old quartz Omega and gave her that.

I’ve thought of that but I haven’t really looked at ladies watches...I guess I could look at some. I got the boys autos - Marathon and CWC: is there anything out there for ladies comparable? I don’t want to go crazy, maybe 1500ish.

Something she will treasure now, and still treasure when she is retired? I'm thinking a necklace might check that box, but the design needs to mean something to (you and) her.

I’ve always leaned towards a nice princess strand of pearls. Totally timeless.

Anyone have a source?

A watch is the obvious choice, and what I'll get my daughter (probably not at 16). A diamond tennis bracelet would also be a good one.

My baby girl is a grown woman now, but my first thought was some type of pendant necklace engraved with something meaningful from you too her.

Agreed, bracelets may be worn or not as fashions change, earrings are changed day by day but a necklace could be worn all day, everyday. My wife wears the chain and pendant she was given by her parents as a child almost all the time.

I don't have children but will most likely give chains and pendants to my God daughters.

Got my daughter diamond stud earrings. 12 years later she still wears them almost daily. They’re classic and will never go out of style.

My thoughts exactly. The girls will always know that it came from you, it's an heirloom and if you select the right piece, they will always wear it.

I just asked my sister-in-law who has an 18 year old daughter. She agrees a necklace such as pearls is a good idea.

From a watch perspective, my wife really likes those ceramic Tag woman’s divers. They are around $2K -ish if I remember correctly.

I'd give them a damn good lecture on not dating a 'watch guy', coz the weirdo bastard will spend the mortgage money on a new Tudor and a bunch of NATOs.

Seriously though, fuck heirlooms.. take them away somewhere on vacation and have fun - they'll cherish that more than any piece of metal or precious stones. Go to Italy, Germany, France, the UK, Africa, Asia etc etc.. have a good time and make memories.

A watch is a watch, a necklace is a necklace, who gives a fuck.

If they don't wanna hang out with Dad.. buy them an 'around the world ticket'.
