My boot buying wasn't quite over(Red Wing content)

Post by Torrid » Mon Feb 20, 2017 6:47 pm

After a conversation with one of the big guys at my new job, the soles on the Timberlands lacking a 90 degree heel aren't going to fly so they are relegated to off work duty. I took the time to stop by Red Wing today. I picked up some steel toed waterproof American made Red Wings in their traditional work boot style. Very happy with these and got a healthy discount for being a railroad employee. If I would have realized how affordable they were I wouldn't have bought the Timberlands anyway. Oh well, I got what I really wanted in the end anyway.

Great looking boots and sure to last.

Since you're a railroad employee you're obviously experienced with trains. How do you feel about imitation crab meat?

Today was my first day. I'm not sure I get the reference.

Just email Jo already. You know you want to smash his train set like a monster.

My father was a railroad man. I remember him having to wear boots with a well-defined heel, ostensibly for climbing the ladders on rolling stock.

What line of work are you in?

Yep, that's the precise reason for the Red Wings. I'm in training now to become a conductor.

Cool! I think you're going to like it. My father worked as a tower operator, train dispatcher, engineer, road foreman, and finally back to an engineer. He retired a few years ago. All told, I think he put in 40 years, and worked for four railroads during that time. Says he doesn't miss it, but I think he does.

By the way, if you put in 40 years, you might get a free Seiko.

Since retiring, he hasn't worn a watch. Can you imagine?

They could've at least given him a Ball.

Yeah, or even a "Railroad Approved" Seiko quartz.

Maybe their employees in the South get better retirement gifts. CSX doesn't like Yankees. :stir:

Yeah, Apple Watch wouldn't be allowed by FRA. Nothing that can connect to a phone or take pictures can be powered on while on the job in any position within the railroad. Phones cannot be powered on or physically on you when working even if they are off.

Thank God they don't restrict us on ships like that or we'd never go anywhere! Phones etc...seem to be a favorite way to communicate with colleagues about conditions, scheduling etc..

Some cell phone use resulted in some train crash fatalities. Ruined it for everyone. I can wear my Marinemaster though so that's cool.
