Filson
Filson
Looking at getting a tin cloth cruiser jacket and a small duffel bag from Filson. Many here have stated that the quality has declined and they would no longer buy the products. Any opinions on these items? Should I go Barbour route instead? Any other brands to look at? I like the style of both the jacket and duffel bag, made in US, etc but if the quality is no longer there, I'll pass.
Thanks guys!!

Re: Filson
I have something approximating a small duffle from Filson. Unused. Let me know if you want more details. It's the new, lower quality, version but the leather quality is pretty decent (about the best you can hope for these days).

Filson quality may have declined, but it's probably still decent. Barbour is just a garbage fashion brand now.

I agree. Old Filson > new Filson> anything else I know.dshap wrote:zepp21 wrote:Looking at getting a tin cloth cruiser jacket and a small duffel bag from Filson. Just buy cheap and you're ok.
Re: Filson
Thanks guys! Are the sizes fairly normal and consistent? Unfortunately there isn't a store around here to try anything on prior to buying.

I always wanted one, but they never fit my 37" sleeve length.ericf4 wrote:have you considered Members Only? Cmon bring the 80's back.
Now I'm gonna picture Eric with that Flock-of-Seagulls hairdo.

Re: Filson
The sizes used to be crazy. I sized down 4 inches from my regular jacket size and the jacket was huge. They're designed for fat burly lumberjacks with a bunch of layers underneath. Not sure about now.zepp21 wrote:Thanks guys! Are the sizes fairly normal and consistent? Unfortunately there isn't a store around here to try anything on prior to buying.

Re: Filson
I just bought a replacement Barbour Beaufort jacket. The quailty is the same as it has been for decades. My 20-year old Filson Double Tin pants are still going strong. With my Le Chameau wellies I'm good to go in most any weather.dshap wrote:Filson quality may have declined, but it's probably still decent. Barbour is just a garbage fashion brand now.
only accurate watches are interesting
Re: Filson
Likewise I recently bought another Barbour right at the factory . They are still made in Tyneside in England. The quality is completely the same as it's always been.

I just got a bunch of cheap Barbour tees on Sierra Trading post and the quality is far better then most of the other shirts I've owned.
Occasionally they have Barbour jackets for 50-80% off.

Some made in Eastern Europe and the ones I saw in Nordstrom were made in Tanzania
Re: Filson
Filson luggage is still made in Seattle and is still good quality if you get the original styles like duffles. Can't speak to the coats quality. There are a couple outlets that filson has that sometimes have decent deals. I always try to buy from their retail location at the factory or the outlet so I know exactly what I'm getting.

Re: Filson
Have a tin cloth cruiser, and it is great. The newer bags are hit-or-miss with regard to the quality of the leather, but if you get a good one, the quality is still there.

How's the sizing on the cruiser?dukerules wrote:Have a tin cloth cruiser, and it is great. The newer bags are hit-or-miss with regard to the quality of the leather, but if you get a good one, the quality is still there.

I'm 6 feet tall and weigh 175. I wear a medium in Seattle fit. Like all Filson, they wear large.

Re: Filson
how do you tell the new filson bags from the older and better ones? I've got a padded computer bag...just curious..sorry if a hijack
Re: Filson
Easiest way is the old stuff had a three-digit product number (such as 256) while the newer adds 70 (70256). My 70256 has nice leather, but I think I just got lucky.YOHOHO wrote:how do you tell the new filson bags from the older and better ones? Re: Filson
I have a Barbour made in Bulgaria. What a POS. I've already had it in for repairs once and not 2 months after I got it back did another seam open up. It's been sitting in the back of my closet for 2 years now.marchone wrote:Agreed.Panerai7 wrote:Not all BarbourNomadz wrote:Likewise I recently bought another Barbour right at the factory . If I ever buy another Barbour again it'll only be one still made in England.
