Bourbon

This is going to sound strange, but my wife just discovered that she likes bourbon and is looking for suggestions (bourbon, not naked selfies).

Being a rhum guy, I don't know "jack" about bourbon. This is what I know...she likes single barrel.

Budget is fairly open, just looking for good single barrel suggestions for her to try.

As I found when starting out, there are a variety of flavor profiles out there, and people generally tend to have a preference within one vein or another.

I knew I liked Evan Williams, so this tree helped me find Elijah Craig which is my standard nightly.

Tons of good info in that thread from folks much more experienced than I.

Blantons beige label, and Eagle Rare 10y are my first recommendations when people ask, but that is what I like as a regular drop.

As Matt said If she likes something already then follow the Distillery / Mashbill (high rye, wheat etc) to find others she might like.

If you can find E H Taylor single barrel, it's very good and fairly well rounded. Another good single barrel is Rock Hills Farm. Certain larger retail liquor stores source or select their own barrel(s) from distillers and you can find really good single barrels that way. One is Old Forester 90 proof. Very smooth, nice nose and plenty of oak, dried fruit or sometimes floral flavors, just depends on what's in that barrel. If you can't find any up your way Mark and want to try one, let me know.

Other solid suggestions in this thread too. Especially Elmer T. Lee.

I'll tell you another one that is not a single barrel, but is bottled in bond (100 proof) and is fantastic, cheap as hell, and should be readily found... Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond. Buy it while you still can as word on the street is Heavenhill Distilleries is going to discontinue it in favor of Larceny. I'm none too happy about that so I've been buying handles of the stuff.

I've been looking for Elmer T Lee and Blantons for months. One liquor store said I could put my name in a lottery (no charge) to be eligible to buy a bottle. Demand is way outpacing supply.

Eagle Rare is one of my favorites that is a good balance of price and taste.

For single barrel, seen you can find Willett Family Reserve.

My rotation of daily drinkers is Old Grand Dad 114, Old Forester 100, Old Weller Antique and Henry McKenna Single Barrel. These can be found pretty easily for under $30 here in TX.

Blanton's is tougher to find and pricier but pretty good. I also love most of what High West puts out, although not sure it's considered "bourbon".

I've never had an alcoholic drink that tastes good. Do people who drink not to get hammered (which I certainly don't do) actually like the taste? Or is it more like coffee - gross at first and then you "develop a taste for it", e.g. get used to the gross taste.

You develop a taste for bourbon, at least I have , I didn't like it at first

It's like coffee and beer. First taste is yuck, but soon enough you progress to 'man I need a beer' or 'don't talk to me yet I need a cup of coffee'.

I've drank tons in my life, but not for the taste! Maybe I'll try a fancy bourbon next time I tie one on.

I find Bourbon and Scotch to be like coffee- more of a learned taste.
That being said, Jefferson Reserve has become a favorite- smooth and well balanced. Woodford Reserve
is a good one. I like to stay in the 80-90 proof range. My next putchase is something from the High West Distillery in Utah- check out Campfire...

I don't know for a fact that they've delivered anything.
