Boots for Shovelling

Post by jimyritz » Mon Oct 03, 2016 7:19 am

Need a pair of boots for shoveling snow--what are you guys wearing?

Looking at LLBean, Sorel, and Kamik... need to be warm and waterproof...

Thoughts?

Thanks
Mike

Sorel's do the trick...

I wear Columbia Bugaboots with my ski pants. Never wet, ever.

I've used Sorels in the past and now have boots like those Columbia (they might even be those Columbia boots).

I look for good insulation, waterproof, and that the boot tongue is sewn into the boot all the way up (so snow / water doesn't seep in between the tongue and boot side). Ski pants with an interior boot gaiter are clutch - maybe even more important than fancy boots. Waterproof boots will still be cold and wet if snow can get in through the top.

A couple years ago when we had all that snow, I was fine running around with my kids in the snow with those ski pants and gaiters.

BTW - shoveling? Forget that!

My wife's last pair were sorels and I wasn't impressed. Regular Bean boots won't be warm enough, but I use the shearling lined version and really like them. If they don't work out, just return them.

I read that Sorel is now owned by Columbia and the quality isn't there at least that is what I saw in a lot of reviews...
Those bugaboos are highly rated though....

Used to be, my snow shoveling boots were whatever I happened to be wearing when my son needed to be motivated to get out there and shovel the damn driveway.
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

Boggs for around here all fall and winter. Warm dry and easy on off. I use them at the ocean and the island.

No, an elitist would say his help wishes they were wearing Sorels while they shovel his snow at the mtn house. LOL
