Ok, gents, you've got to help me out: cigar ideas?

Post by Sidheguitarist » Mon Jun 27, 2016 9:50 pm

So, every once in a very blue moon, K and I sit on a porch and split a cigar. To give you an idea, we did one on the porch of our hippie rental house when we graduated from music school; we shared another while on our honeymoon... we split another stogie when we moved to Spokane, and another when we bought our house--which was almost 15 years ago.

The other night, we are grabbing a couple of miles of walk in the fresh air, and K observes that it has been well over a decade since we sat on the porch with a stogie going. "We should do that again," opines she, "but maybe something good this time..."

So I need some help on this, since I've smoked maybe 10 in my life and they were all, er, plebeian.

I know that some of y'all have considerable expertise in this area, so: help me find a cigar to split with K. At the 1.5 decade per roll rate we are going, I'll be in my 60s by the time the next one comes around, so I'd best do something worthwhile.

I'm open to ideas, and thanks a ton in advance for the input.

I'm not an expert or nuthin', but I light one up about once every two weeks or so. Some of my favorites:

Partagas Serie D No.4
Cohiba Behike
Davidoff Escurio
Davidoff Churchill (the previous version was so-so, but they revisited it last year and, damn...)
Bolivar Royal Corona

Honesty, I'd say that any one of the above would be a worthy smoke for you and the SO.

Regards,
Adam

My favorite are lite wrappers and box or torpedo cut. Too many brands to narrow down.

I used to buy pipe tobacco from these places, they have cigars too.
I've made many many purchases from both and never had any issues and super fast delivery-

I agree with about 40% of Adam's list. The rest are garbage. Don't buy online...you're buying one. Go to a good cigar/pipe shop..NOT a smoke shop. If they have those vape thingies that the faggoty millenials are shoving in their face cunts, walk out. And yes we burned one without you, your dumbass didn't show up.

Some good "brands" that don't disappoint if you can't get a hold of a Cuban:
Avo
Ashton
My Father
A. Fuentes
Montecristo (Peruvian-oh man...the Peruvian ones)
CAO-Again the Peruvian blends

If you want specific lines I could recommend based on what you guys are going to drink and preference.

I thought you lived in Washington? You have much better options available than cigars

Dave nailed it here. All of the above are fantastic cigars. Another thing to consider when going to the cigar shop, don't just concentrate on price. There are $10 cigars that I've enjoyed much more than some of the pricier ones. Cubans are good. I've had a few but in my experience, it's more about the 'hype' than the actual quality. I'd also add Padron, Rocky Patel (select ones), and Perdomo. Cigars are much like bourbon or scotch. What Dave may view as 'great' others may not. A few favorites lately are the AVO Syncro Nicaragua or the XO, Montecristo White Label (classic cigar), and the My Father Le Biijou 1922 box pressed (this was an amazing cigar). Side note: I've met Avo Uvezian a hand ful of times at an event here in Pa and also at Corona Cigar Co. in Orlando. He's a great guy to talk to and he simply sits around the shop, talking to clients, smoking cigars, and sipping espresso.

It's personal. Lots of styles to choose from. Full and smooth is my preference.

There is only one answer: Arturo Fuente Hemingway Signature.

You're welcome, from you're friend in Tampa, otherwise known as Cigar City. Look it up.

It has been a LONG time, but Montecristo #4's are a nice, smooth, cigar. IMO it is a nice cigar for someone who only rarely smokes.

So many good ones to chose from. As you are a very rare smoker I would go with something on the mild side. Some of those mentioned above can have some stronger versions.

My brother in law gave me a My Father Le Bijou for my birthday. It was very good and surprisingly mild.

As for Benningtons.com I wholeheartedly agree. I used to work there part time and I am still good friends with with Jack.

My wife just picked up a few cigars from there and a travel case for our 20th anniversary.

I smoked a Davidoff Nicaraguan Box Pressed the other night. Yummy!

Can you recommend a shop in Seattle? We're there enough in the summer that I'd do that before undergoing a de-millennial elimination search locally.
