I don't really understand why people get so hung up on "quality", as in color or inclusions. Since diamonds basically have no resale value and the whole "investment" marketing line is just bullshit (and if things go according to plan, it will never be sold), why not buy the biggest and sparkliest stone that looks good to the naked eye?

Again, because that's not what your fiancée wants. Logic does not play a part in diamond engagement rings.

New watches are a little different, but let's say you go buy a $10,000 vintage Rolex. If you go to sell it in a few years you'll probably get $10,000 for it. If you buy a $10,000 diamond ring and go to sell it in a few years, you'll get what, $3000? $5000?

I bought my wife's ring about 8 years ago. It cost about the same price as my submariner. I'm sure the exact same ring I bought her is a lot more expensive now. For our 5 year anniversary I bought a duplicate wedding band for her so it was like a sandwich, and just that ring cost a lot more 5 years later- and that's without the emerald cut diamond that the engagement ring has.

FACT, she wants a ring. One thing you will learn real fast when about women. They will say shit like "oh I really don't want that", or "it looks nice but it isn't for me". Those are all LIES, that want that so do it. I made the mistaken when I was dating my current wife and thought when she said something like that she meant it, not true at all. They expect you to "see" the real meaning of what they are saying. We as men see things in two colors, black and white, women see everything in 1020 colors.
