Wow
In Italy I can guarantee almost nobody does that.
Crazy how much things are different even among countries with very similar cultural roots.

Since diamonds basically have no resale value and the whole "investment" marketing line is just bullshit (and if things go according to plan, it will never be sold), why not buy the biggest and sparkliest stone that looks good to the naked eye?
Again, because that's not what your fiancée wants. Logic does not play a part in diamond engagement rings.
I agree, neither do watches

New watches are a little different, but let's say you go buy a $10,000 vintage Rolex. If you go to sell it in a few years you'll probably get $10,000 for it. If you buy a $10,000 diamond ring and go to sell it in a few years, you'll get what, $3000? $5000?
I don't know how true this is.

I bought my wife's ring about 8 years ago. It cost about the same price as my submariner. I'm sure the exact same ring I bought her is a lot more expensive now. For our 5 year anniversary I bought a duplicate wedding band for her so it was like a sandwich, and just that ring cost a lot more 5 years later- and that's without the emerald cut diamond that the engagement ring has.

Well I guess she's a keeper. We had a discussion about it and she doesn't actually want an engagement ring, she's alright with whatever wedding bands. She wants a vintage engagement watch. Specifically a Rolex 5513, the one with the plastic crystal. Color me surprised.

Vera wang has a big sale this weekend at zales. I'm getting a 4800 dollar ring for like 3400 out the door with warranty and shit.

i'd say it's a trap, unless she has a bunch of married/engaged friends that already have big rocks. If she is unfazed by that, I'd think you're safe..haha...

FACT, she wants a ring. One thing you will learn real fast when about women. They will say shit like "oh I really don't want that", or "it looks nice but it isn't for me". Those are all LIES, that want that so do it. I made the mistaken when I was dating my current wife and thought when she said something like that she meant it, not true at all. They expect you to "see" the real meaning of what they are saying. We as men see things in two colors, black and white, women see everything in 1020 colors. :salute:

She's actually been engaged before she broke it off. I actually don't think she wants a big ring. She's much more into watches  In fact, she sold her last engagement ring but kept her Patek...

Yeah, her specific instructions were that whatever I was going to put into a ring, put it into the watch. But I'll still get her a engagement ring...

I'd marry him for a 5517. He can keep the ring.

Then ask her to sign the prenup.

Buy her a simple platinum setting with an outstanding 1.0 carat stone, and get a simple platinum band to match. It will be beautiful but not flashy.

That would still probably set him back $5-6k.

Jae can afford it. I wish I only spent $6k on my wife's ring.

Buy her the ring, or take a shortcut and just give her half your shit right now and walk away.

Seriously though, congratulations.
