Just completed a screen room!
For the chickens.
Re: Just completed a screen room!
The real question is why the hell are you raising chickens on LI?

Damn, you are good. That is a dream chicken coop. I'm gonna try something like that next year when my dad moves down to our town. Nothing that huge and elaborate, but should be sufficient for three-four chickens. Excellent job once again!
It's a beautiful world! Gerald.

Nice chicken shed, Jethro. I have to say fresh poultry is the best.
Barry and I were saying you need to show up at a GTG.

Honestly chickens aren't noisy at all and neighbors hardly notice them. Now most cities won't let you have roosters because they are noisy.dshap wrote:Your neighbors must love you.
Hey Matt do you have a heat lamp in the coup for the winter? And how many chickens do you have?

No heat lamp. From what I've read, the chickens should be fine without heat during the winter.
On the other hand, it is a problem if their water freezes.
I have a 60 watt light bulb beneath their metal water container.
The bulb is on a control that turns it on when the temperature falls below 35 degrees.
This is our first winter with the chickens, so I'm not sure this is going to work.

Far out man. Fresh eggs are great. So are the old hens.
only accurate watches are interesting

It's interesting that the ckns will not require heat lamps. Very impressive building skills! I couldn't fold a card board box...

Thanks.1954Selmer wrote:It's interesting that the ckns will not require heat lamps. Very impressive building skills! I couldn't fold a card board box...
Just a coop, but I'm still a bit anal about how things come out.
The door was wracked in when closed.
That would have made be crazy pretty quickly.
Easy fix with a stop at the bottom.

Re: Just completed a screen room!
Do you got to http://www.backyardchickens.com/ ? Great info on there. When my Dad lived in Indiana he only used the bulb for heating the water also. But he had over 100 chickens at one time. Let me know if they still produce in the winter. We are talking about getting some maybe next year. I am just afraid my bird dog might eat them.mattcantwin wrote:4 chickens.toxicavenger wrote:Hey Matt do you have a heat lamp in the coup for the winter? And how many chickens do you have?

How cold does it get??
Re: Just completed a screen room!
Single digits the last 3 winters. High 20s or mid 30s is usually as bad as it gets.mikeylacroix wrote:How cold does it get??
