Teach me about money clips
Teach me about money clips
I'm finally sick of carrying a thick wallet, so I've decided to make do with a card holder and money clip, situationally depending on whether I need cash.
I've been going through the usual designer catalogs, but it doesn't look like many of the European accessory houses even have one (goyard, Hermes, and balenciaga are the ones I checked). Any suggestions? I can't do LV as the image in motherland China is unfavorable, but anything else I should look at?

Re: Teach me about money clips
Not a money clip but I was in the same boat, thick wallets irritate the life out of me. I was just leaving a card in my back pocket at one point but kept killing 'em. Went for one of these, the wood is kinda geeky but different, really thin and cards don't get damaged. I very very rarely carry cash but if I do just use the elastic to strap t to the side. Got 5 cards in mine but 3/4 work better.

I also got tired of a bulky wallet. Didn't want to go the money clip route though. Instead grabbed a front pocket i.d. holder from Saddleback. Love it. Holds just enough cards and cash.

I'm not "fashion forward" but I appreciate a quality product. With this in mind I carry a Saddleback Leather small wallet. Space for about a half-dozen cards, plus drivers license and folded money.

I use this in Tobacco 100% of the time. Never have a need to switch to anything bulkier.Erratic101 wrote:I also got tired of a bulky wallet. Didn't want to go the money clip route though. Instead grabbed a front pocket i.d. holder from Saddleback. Love it. Holds just enough cards and cash.

Same here. As a frequent flyer (mostly domestic) I appreciate the lack of plastic over the ID window. It is super easy to slide out your driver's license at the TSA counter.matt.wu wrote:I use this in Tobacco 100% of the time. My advice on money clips is to avoid the variety which uses magnets to close the clip. I wasn't thinking and erased all my credit cards when trying one out at a shop.
Prior to Saddleback, I used a Coach design which combined a wallet similar in design to Saddleback with a clip. It worked well, but wore out after a couple of years.

Nothing flashy but the best wallets I've ever used have been from Allett. Also, I hate folding bills so I opted for a bifold; however, they've got a bunch of different designs. Thinnest wallets in the world and handmade in Cali.

I came close to getting a Bellroy Travel Wallet with passport pocket. Seems very well designed. Then I checked the size. It sits some half inch out of my back jeans pocket. Primo pickpocket bait. Nix.

Re: Teach me about money clips
I have used this money clip for years. Money clips with magnets in them will ruin a credit card if you carry one in the clip. This money clip opens and then locks shut and that keeps it from breaking at the top in the center after using it for a while. I love it. I'm not suggesting this clip - just this style.
It easily holds your cash, a credit card, your driver's license and of course, your hunting license.

I've been carrying my hellbent wallet lately. Carbon fiber. Tough. No stretching. Does the job. If you want a money clip they make one. Or a wallet/money clip combo too (money clip is removable). I think it'll hold plenty of cash for you Zack [WINKING FACE]

Re: Teach me about money clips
Alex that was going to be my recommendation as well.
Re: Teach me about money clips
Thank you guys! I did pick up a card holder, so I'll give that a go - sometimes I do need to carry large stacks of cash (this is not a veiled brag, they're all singles or 5s) - and I do need a money clip. I like the carbon fiber one, ordered one off of eBay, let's see how it is once it comes .
Re: Teach me about money clips
Looks like you're all set, but I'll throw in another rec for the Saddleback ID wallet. I carry only about 3-4 cards, ID and cash.
Works great, looks great and should last me forever.

I love money clips. Unfortunately they are only worth a fuck if you have money in them. Which I don't. So, yea ....

You're from western Washington you should check out filson security wallet. Very similar and a rock solid performer for me. Local company makes it even better.hoppyjr wrote:I'm not "fashion forward" but I appreciate a quality product. With this in mind I carry a Saddleback Leather small wallet.
