This is a Mongoose Single-edge razor with a custom handle from Triad Handles. The Mongoose use the Feather & Kai Shavette (straight-razor) blades in a safety razor design. A significant step-up imo to using a double-edge razor (and I've tried more than a few). Check out their Facebook page:

Razorock is good stuff, but I encourage you to check out some of the other artisans - Cold River Soap Works, Barrister&Mann, Mike's Natural Soaps, Mystic Water are a few of my favorites.

What is this razor?
I use an Edwin Jagger and a Merkur 180 with corked feather blades. Been doing DE for 3 years and will never look back. Build the lather on my face instead of in a bowl. Use a number of soaps including several artisan types with Menthol for the summer. Razorock XXX is the best I have ever used.
Re: Dollar shave club
I don't use the 1 dollar one and I only get 5 bucks off. It caps at 10.lilhoody wrote:Leo, here's a recap of your thread:

thing I've learned about this thread is that every person does it completely different. What I'm saying is that dsc is basically the same as what everyone uses, and it's worked out for me. It's convenient and cheap and has everything I need to care for my hair and skin from the neck up, and if you do something different then that's totally cool. If you're lost or find yourself needing razors or having crusty razors, this is a good organized way to keep that shit in check without breaking he wallet.

Re: Dollar shave club
I use a cheap ass shave kit with a Merkur and it works great for me. Rahul sent me a blade assortment years ago and I still have used all of them since I only shave 2 times a week and only change my blade out about once a month.

Re: Dollar shave club
I just cancelled my 2nd go around with Dollar Shave Club. I first tried the twin. I just cancelled the 4 blade version. Neither seemed like the razors were of any better quality. I am pretty hard on razors and am lucky if can get a week out of any blade. I shave only 3-4 times a week and never on my days off. So the first day I usually have a three day growth.
I have tried the single blade route and in the morning when I have a time issue it just takes too long. You have to be vary careful and meticulous when using those blades. Otherwise you will slice and dice your face. I dont have the nerve to try and shave my head with a single blade. If I cant see the blade I think I am asking for trouble.
I do like using premium gels, creams and brushes though.
I also tried Harry's and got similar results. Plus their handle, while very nice, is very slippery as well.
I stick to the Schick 3 blade version that has a bit of flex in the blade.

Re: Dollar shave club
thanks. Googled that razor and it looks a little too rich for my blood. My soap rotation includes artisanals from Mikes and The Shave Den along with Cella, Razorock and Proraso.djh1201 wrote:This is a Mongoose Single-edge razor with a custom handle from Triad Handles. Re: Dollar shave club
Sounds like you are having some great shaves!
FYI, they are developing an aluminum version that is supposed to be well under $100.

I gotta branch out to this subculture. I use some sort of 5 blade deals from costco and never gave much thought. I must look into this whole thing.

I'm surprised this topic has stayed on facial hair shaving. Terry must be distracted.

Re: Dollar shave club
You guys are funny. Wearing high-end automatics as opposed to wearing a Timex (or using your phone) isn't high maintenance??

Lounges around in $75 "Players shirts" wearing a Patek, but uses his wife's razor with no cream like a peasant.

His wife has said he has a special $400 "wussy" razor, gets facials( not the kind Terry gives., but who knows,?) and mani/pedis by an 80 year old asian woman.
He also gets his ass waxed once a month so it's easier for him to slide around on his hardwood floors..
Some weird shit.
Re: Dollar shave club
lol I'm sort of with mark in that i use some 5 blade costco razor and whatever shave gel i get at the store...id like to try some of this other stuff though to see maybe I'm missing out on something.

Dollar shave club
Gotta say that unfortunately for me the only razors that work on my steel like facial hair effectively are the overpriced to hell Gillette Fusion blades and believe me when I say I've looked for options
Many will register, few will last
