Obenaufs is the shit. Does wonders for old dry leather jackets without very much darkening of the leather.

I only have a couple of their wallets and a passport case, but I don't treat them at all. Mine are the tan (tobacco) color and I love the natural patina it develops from the oils of my skin and general use.

I've never used anything on any of my SBL stuff - all chestnut leather: large briefcase, slim wallet, bifold wallet, passport wallet. I've had the large briefcase for 2 years now and it still looks brand new. I carry it daily. Maybe I should hit it with some Lexol or Obenaufs.

Short answer is treat it how you want it to look, do you want it shiney like patten leather oxfords, then build up wax on it, and be prepared to maintain it. Do you want it staying similar to the factory finish, probably going to find yourself using a very light conditioner like Lexol, but as with anything, try in a small inconspicous area and watch for darkening. Do you want to age, antique it? Follow me...




These are tobacco bags so they are open face, i believe all the other dyed bags have a smoother surface and age/weather very differently, compare a saddle to an old bomber jacket.
