Heck, I'd probably hurt myself if I had one of those. That said, it appears you could chop a guy in half - ouch!!!

All ripping on Lynn Thompson aside, there is a reason that the sword has chopped and cleaved its way through centuries of human history: they freaking work!  Even the invictas.

Secretly, I've always sort of wanted one of CS' "Grosse Messers"...

I stopped watching when one of the mall ninjas was lining up on the strung-up pig carcass to slice its head open. I didn't think that was cool; I actually thought it was pretty fucked-up. Just my two cents.

Well, that's because it's pretty fucked-up. Everyone knows that the authentic way to test cut a sword (Tameshigiri) is to use convicted criminals or stacks of corpses. Pigs are for mall-ninja pussies.

OK, no, really... in this day and age the pig thing is a bit rough, I agree.

What's the market for pig-slicing, boot-hacking, chain-mail-piercing, turkey-stabbing blade weapons?

Interesting how many items are on back order though.

If I ever become a pig farmer I'm definitely getting one for makin' bacon :)

Seriously though a buddy of mine used to be a Cold Steel dealer years ago and he dropped them because he said the quality went to shit. IMO not sure the quality was ever there.

Cold Steel is a bad ass knife company. Not everyone's style, but very top notch. The true measure of a knife is it's steel, and Cold Steel uses some mean stuff and they heat treat it righteous.

I'm with Tom, I only have 1 but it's pretty damn impressive and was crazy sharp out of the box. Seems built like a tank to me by the normal standards.

Could have done without the pig slicing though.

Gotta love the statement at the end of the Grosse Messer video...

Only Cold Steel puts it's sword where it's mouth is.

Someone, somewhere grabbed their crotch in abject fear when he said that.

My Recon 1 is nasty sharp, holds a mean edge, and has an awesome locking mechanism. Definatly a good blade but it's the only CS I've used/seen so I can't really comment on the company. I'm not a great Cold Steel mind in other words
