Well, Ordered New Boots ... But Not Red Wings

So, I went out and tried on Red Wings (Iron Rangers and Beckmans) and found them a bit too snug for me in the back and mid toe (I have really wide fore-feet, probably due to 27 plus years of ruck marches in foot breakers). And for some reason, I cannot find half-sizes nor extra widths here in Canada. Sad, as I really wanted Red Wings.

Then the sales person suggested I try Chippewas and so I did. Felt great, super-comfortable for the entire foot and look great. So, have a pair of chocolate brown Chippewa Apache in-bound. Not looking for dress boots, but boots to wear with jeans , cords and khakis. Looking forward to getting them and will post pics and my impressions, once received.

Yep, everything I have read and heard about them is top notch. And the salesman, who reminds me of Ted Bundy, was wearing a pair, said he had 4 other pairs of Chipps and basically lived in them.

And yep, should have listened but not very good at that ... although I do figure things out ... eventually.

Yep, that's where I picked them up, Chris. Did the fitting at the store and then Ted Bundy (spitting image of the character) suggested I buy them via Amazon, as they were far better priced on-line (nice of him to do that).

Nice, looking forward to the pics. Funny how the military can ruin your feet. I am finally getting rid of the thick ass callouses on my heels from all the years of wearing combat boots. There was a time that if I rubbed the top of my foot a few times with the heel on my other foot, it would damn near take the skin off.

Yep, same thing here. And most of my time has been spent in the field force, so between deployments overseas and time in the field, I have worn my combat boots the majority of my waking adult life. And early on, the junk they issued us was all at, junk. I wear Danners (winter) and 5/11s (summer) these days, but the damage is done, so footwear that fits and molds to my feet is what matters these days.

Obenaufs will darken but after about a week they will lighten back up but will still be darker than they were originally in my experience.

Hmmm, that may not work, then ...

May have to look at mink oil or dubbin.
