Travel Questions
A couple of you have talked about Destin, FL in the past, I was stunned by the the last set of pictures posted by Brandon. SW Airline www.swavacations.com has a day trip including airfare and hotel for $1600. I like the concept of Destin because it doesn't look mainstream, I love the sea, and the price isn't bad.
1. How is the weather and water in mid January?
2. How is the Hilton Sandestin?
3. Where else would you suggest?
This is an anniversary trip, for some reason I was told we can't go snowboarding. Hawaii is another option. I'm game for some other suggestions, but I'd like to keep it around $2000 (not counting food, entertainment, and beverage), $3000 is the max.

In my opinion, if you want to be warm and on the beach, Hawaii is it. Florida can be AMAZING, but January might be cool and wet.

Re: Travel Questions
January is hit or miss as you may get a front blowing in from up north. Not the best month to visit the beach, and for us, the water is cold.
To guarantee a good time that time of year, I would spend the extra coin and hit Hawaii, and come to Florida when the weather is more certain.

Go to Napa. Very relaxing...may be a little chilly at that time of year though.lilhoody wrote:A couple of you have talked about Destin, FL in the past, I was stunned by the the last set of pictures posted by Brandon. Re: Travel Questions
Yep, Destin can be a bit cold to go to the beach in January. The locals really don't swim that time of year. Fishing is still good.
The missus and I really enjoyed Playa del Carmen Mexico. It is just south of Cancun, and the weather was great in late January. PDC is where you can also catch the ferry over to Cozumel for some snorkeling.
If someone changes there mind and you can go Snowboarding, I hear we are supposed to get some great snow this year here in Colorado.

I went to Florida in January 2010 and it was brutal. It barely got out of the 50s the entire time I was there and it was in the 30s at night. I saw a guy in a restaurant wearing a ski hat. I have switched my trips to November now.

Re: Travel Questions
January in Hawaii is also a hit or miss! In the winter months it may rain for weeks, with a day of sunshine between. Water's kinda warm thought.
But in winter, if there's a storm out in the Pacific. This is the time to head to the North Shore. Swells would be coming in so hard you can feel the water vibrate while paddling out!
