I’ll stick with my 8 Plus for now but there’s a good chance I’ll actually go back to Android after this phone if it never comes back. It’s not just about Touch ID but that would be the final straw. That and I cannot stand the notch. So many phones do it now. If I was buying a phone right now it would be the Samsung Note 9 for these reasons but as long as iPhones last me I’ll likely use this one for a few years.
You don’t have to raise it directly to your face. I pull out of my pocket and at pocket height it unlocks. For the times it’s on a table, and I need to glance at it, I just put in my passcode.

Same. X to XS Max. Happy with the choice.nweash wrote:I went from X to XS Max. Love the additional screen space. It’s way more pleasant overall. You get used to the size within a day and then you can’t imagine not having.
Can’t think of any drawbacks. I use a bodyguardz case that’s relatively thin and protects up to 12 feet drops.
Battery lasts me all day and I average 4hr 40min of screen time a day according to my Screen Time app.

I’m gonna wait until I can handle them in person. For me it’s going to be how it feels in my hand and in my pocket. I’m coming from a 7, and I’m a front pocket kinda guy (mostly for the vibrations). I know I won’t go Max, so it’ll be either XR or XS. Screen and camera are both better than I’ll probably ever notice, but the dual sim is the selling point for me.

I haven’t had one issue with it unlocking in complete darkness.Torrid wrote:Low light though? I just got my wife an XR. I’m going to stick with my 7 Plus for at least another year. It still does everything I need very well.

Well that was interesting... However I'm pretty sure Joe and Neil both can afford to replace their phones every day if needed... and I don't think either has a nine month old son with itchy handsnweash wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 9:11 amhidden by leaves wrote:Anybody run these without a case? Maybe I'll compromise and do film type protectors front and back.

I’ve always found iPhones slippery without a case.hidden by leaves wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 9:06 amAnybody run these without a case? I always want to then chicken out...

Wondering if apple is going to drop the prices in the next few months. Lots of noise about their weaker sales.

Check out Rhinoshield. It’s thin, number-style, and I won’t buy anything else. Saved me countless times.

I imagine it would be about as slippery as any other iPhone. I use my 8 Plus without a case. The last phone I used with a case was the SE and it was too small to really grip well.hidden by leaves wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 9:06 amAnybody run these without a case? I always want to then chicken out...

You'd probably need to be watching a movie on both in a slightly darkened room to really see the differences in contrast and black level.hidden by leaves wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 8:43 pmmanitoujoe wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 6:41 pmSo Xr is the way to go?
I’ve got a 6+ too. When I was at Best Buy, I quickly liked the Xr screen too and had to do a double take because I thought it was the Xs.
Also, carriers. I’m with AT&T but heard good stuff about Sprint. Any real difference?Yeah one of the first things I did when I started looking at these options was go to a Best Buy where they had an XR and XS (literally) side by side and turned on for display. I ran the same demo photos holding the two phones together and I had to convince myself I was seeing some minor differences in a couple of pics. Maybe.Selym wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 7:02 pm
The Xr is also considerably cheaper than the Xs or Xs Max.
My wife's thinking of returning her Xs to Costco and getting an Xr plus cash instead. She bought the Xs shortly before the Xr was released.
Maybe I'm blind, but I can't tell the difference between the OG Retina and new OLED displays.
If you showed me the two phones independently and asked me to guess which was the XS I'm pretty sure I'd do no better than if I was flipping a coin.

Re: iPhone XR or XS/XSmax?
I upgraded from a 6 to an XS. I am a front pocket carrier and a one hand user. I think the XS is about as big as I could go and still use one handed and tote comfortably in my front pocket. I use the 2nd zoom lens a lot more than I thought I would. I justified the expense to myself because I'm planning on keeping it for 3 to 4 years.

Why would you want to? Just use a thin case and keep it nice. None of these are immune to scrapes and scratches.hidden by leaves wrote:Anybody run these without a case? I always want to then chicken out...

Re: iPhone XR or XS/XSmax?
I always use a case and screen protector anymore. Spigen case usually as it adds minimal bulk but good protection. Screen protector did it’s job on New Year’s Day. Dropped the phone on concrete steps. Cracked the screen protector but phone screen was fine.hidden by leaves wrote:Anybody run these without a case? I always want to then chicken out...

Keep it nice for what? To never use as it was designed and intended? Guess I have a bit of fatigue on that stuff.

Re: iPhone XR or XS/XSmax?
Let me say if you’re not going to put a case on it, I would at least do a screen protector. Being all screen they get scratched easily.

Re: iPhone XR or XS/XSmax?
iPhone X and newer screens do scratch waaaaay easier than previous gens.
Re: iPhone XR or XS/XSmax?
and the glass screen protectors are worlds apart from the old plastic ones.
