Bored and playing with Linux
Bored and playing with Linux
I'm sure this is absolute blasphemy, but my obsession with tech lately has gotten me playing around with Linux. My old Dell now looks like Mac OS.

I love it. The only downside is that it is easy to screw it up messing up with the back end setup if you’re into tinkering like I did with the Mac OS look, but I always keep the thumb drive around for emergency re-flash. It’s much less bloated than Windows though. One of the shells I used to control the app tray at the bottom of the screen broke everything, including the app launcher and I had to do the full reflash. I found another after doing so and everything works perfect now.toxicavenger wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 7:23 pmSweet. Are you liking it? Another showing how the buttons appear in applications. Here's Firefox.
Re: Bored and playing with Linux
I went down that rabbit hole long ago on an old desktop in my basement. It was fun and I enjoyed aspects, but simple things like configuring to drivers on my printer were a huge pain in the ass and took a lot of research. I'm not a programmer so in the end I went back to the simplicity of Windows. Perhaps it is better now.
Linux is a great option if you are a skilled computer user, but for casual users probably not so much........
Re: Bored and playing with Linux
Ubuntu's package of drivers makes it much easier than more basic versions of Linux, but it is true that there is a much bigger learning curve to Linux. I didn't know much about computers until I decided to convert mine so I've been learning as I go. For someone that just wants something simple that works I'd have a hard time recommending it.dnslater wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 4:13 amI went down that rabbit hole long ago on an old desktop in my basement.
