Need a laptop
Need a laptop
Hey guys- I am looking for some opinions and suggestions. I want a nice lightweight laptop for chilling on the couch and doing some surfing. Sick of looking at my phone.
Requirements : nice screen, not small not huge. Lightweight, quick to boot up, long ass battery life, not full of bloatware, can handle a million open browser tabs, YouTube videos, etc. I don't do any gaming ... I want something that will get updates and won't suck total balls to use in a couple years.
I don't really want a Chromebook or anything apple. I don't care about touchscreen. Would like to keep it reasonable...around $500 or so? Less would be great.
What do I want? An Ultrabook? One of those asus vivobooks?

Used 12” MacBook
Re: Need a laptop
Ditto. I bought one for my daughter for school...
And never gave it to her..
It's super light, boots up immediately, surfs easily.

My daughter has a 13" ASUS ZenBook that she seems to love. Has the normal keyboard and touchpad but does also have a touch screen.

Yeah. I admit to seeing touch screens as superfluous too...but they are actually more handy than I anticipated. I read comics on my laptop and find it easiest to swipe the screen to turn pages.

We are bad at following instructions. That’s why the wives say “ no more watches “ and we are still on dwc !bedlam wrote:Responses are....I don't really want a Chromebook or anything apple.

Yep, Chomebooks are improving with more and more features.. Even if you don't want a touchscreen, many of the newer models can use Google Play Store, so you'd have access to Android apps as well as Chrome apps. Much easier and more trouble free than Windows 'puters.
No, it's not Tourettes.

Re: Need a laptop
Agree, for what you describe you don't need a physical keyboard... IPad or a tablet would serve you well. I only you my laptop if I need to use excel or write something long.Seppia wrote:I think by far and away the best tool for the tasks you described is an iPad.
It has substituted by laptop in 95% Of instances (basically: any time I don’t have to use excel or type a lot).
With your requirements yeah I’d say a zenbook.
If you had more budget I would have said a Dell XPS which is the best laptop on the planet by a mile imho

Me too. Love my Asus C302, have had it over a year now. Super-high quality looks, feel, backlit keyboard, super-fast, touch-screen is great for watching movies, etc. Can't imagine going back to Windoze or Apple...
Re: Need a laptop
Have you looked at the Surface Go?
Re: Need a laptop
i would certainly check Surface GO, starts at 399 and likely meets your needs. Some really good reviews out there ive read recently.

Get a Lenovo yoga 720 or 730. I have a 720. I love it. Touchscreen convertible. It’s under 3lbs, has a very slim bezel, all aluminum but it has a heft to it even though it’s lightweight. It’s solid if that makes sense. I paid about $680 for it. Boots up quick, has a fingerprint reader for fast sign in. I usually can get about 5 hours of battery with screen brightness at 75%. I’m very happy with it. I also love typing on the keyboard.

Re: Need a laptop
so i forgot i had an old chromebook collecting dust in a drawer. it's an acer c720p, probably like 4-5 years old but it seems to still be running OK. The screen blows but I think I will see if I can deal with it for awhile before dropping the cash on a new chromebook or ultrabook. Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Hi...
Don't shoot me.....but I bought a secondhand Surface Pro 3 for one of my daughters....touch screen, keyboard, SSD, i7 for less than $1,000. They can be cheaper if you go for the lower spec models.
I got the wife a Surface New a few years ago...and they are awesome. I think this is the way all non-desktop PC's (computers) will be. Not ready to throw away my desktop...but it is tempting
