I am looking for a none subscription virus scan were you can pay for just a year and go on to another if they are the shits. With a subscription they all seem to do a automatic renewal were you don't know you been charged on your credit card until you get a email from the crooks that they did it got two emails from two different virus services one I have not used in a few years some times when I am not using a virus company due to I switched to another I think of there email as spam and don't bother opening it wonder if I paid for some thing I have not ever used a few times. To me this is crooked and they are thief's. So I am looking for a honest one with out automatic renewal I don't mind a renewal reminder email were I click a link to say I except it for another year not one that does it with out me saying yes and clicking the link for it were it does it automatically and I get charged for some I did not want. I guess they hope you don't notice so they bamboozle you real good with out you knowing it. So is there any none subscription none automatic virus scan co. were you just pay for one year virus scans were the customer the one that clicks the email reminder to renew and if that don't happen the virus co don't do the automatic renewal on you I don't like getting scammed it's a crooked practice .

Have you tried Microsoft Security Essentials? I've been using it for a few years with no issues.

I don't mind paying if it has extra protection but when the year is up I like to choose if I want another year. Not the jackasses after they get my credit card info just doing it automatically with out your permission looking for one that don't pull this kind of crap. I guess I can do it the old fashion way and buy it at the store were they don't get my credit card info.

I use avast for my gaming pc. I put it in silent mode so it rarely bugs me. Never had an issue. And it's free 99

Mike,

Pretty much all the services will auto-renew by default. Some may have a setting you can turn auto-renew off, but it's often the way stuff like this is. The AVG free version is good, I've used it for years with no issues. Microsoft Security Essentials is also free and its a genuine Microsoft product. It works.

I like free. Try it and use the money for watches.

:)

That's what I'm using on my Mac, but didn't even think of it for PC.

I have used Microsoft Security Essentials and AVG Free for years on my PCs. I have heard good things about Avast there. I have not had to install additional security on my Apple devices.

I used Avast for years but a few versions ago it started bogging down my system. I switched to AVG and it works great. Both were free.

I was using MSE for awhile but an IT guy came into my work one day and told me that's useless, and I should at least consider something else. FWIW

Now that I rely on Chromebook/Chromebox, I don't need the security software, but when I was using a PC, MS Essentials was my security blanket. IMO, it's pointless to spend money on something like Norton or McAfee. I had problems with Mozilla not playing nice with security programs
and the Chrome browser for PC was a big improvement, but for me, the best alternative is not using a PC at all.

I got windows 10 I think widows defender is it. And for later model Microsoft Security Essentials works only with them from what I found on the net. I had AVG and I was searching for info on a watch and the site had one of those attack with the talking saying they had control and your computer infected. So I shut down the computer and had problems restarting I had to reload windows 10 lost a few things like a few apps and AVG did not do the job and I had the paid version. Right now I am using windows defender and the free trial version of Malwarebytes that stays on for a few weeks before the free version kicks in and adguard to stop ads. Do like Malwarebytes that stays on and works along side windows defender so thinking of buying Malwarebytes since the free version don't stay on you use it after the fact. I guess apple cut there prices on one of there tablet were it was under 500 bucks looked at it at Costco they only had the display model left they seem to be the only one you don't need security software mite be the best way to go.

Hi Mike.
I always used to use Norton but in the end found it started to slow down my computer and I hated how expensive it was getting to. I now use and have been using Windows Defender for free for a long time now and have found it works as well if not better then many paid for solutions out there.

As for what happened on the site that had one of those attacks with the talking and them saying they had control and your computer and it was infected so call toll free number to fix it I do get that to occasionally from the site I stream my F1 from and there is an easy fix. Hit Control+Alt+Delete, then choose task manager and then click on your web browser and end program it is faster and easier then shutting down your computer and does get rid of it. But if your web browser then offers you to open previous tabs as it didn't shut down properly ignore and open the site you want.
