Cute personnel robots
Cute personnel robots
Article in todays Toronto Star on AI and personnel robots and checked out a couple of similar models
Kibo and Robi. Both are similar in design, but Robi has a larger vocabulary at 200 words.
Sold as companion robots for seniors or single people. Something to interact with, but not cheap. Robi you build yourself with a kit over 12 or 18 months (they send a piece once per month) starting at $90.00 per part.
Fully built Robi models are about $2000. One place imported and are asking $3500
Japanese speaking only for now.
Couple of hundred. I would buy one for the grand neices and nephews

Cost seems pretty high for something that doesn't actually take advantage of its physicality/mobility. Most of that functionality seems to be available in something like the Amazon Echo for a lot less. The one from MIT Media Lab (Jibo?) has some interesting camera functionality, but again doesn't seem like it has that much in additional features outside of an Echo.
Cute personnel robots
I don't need a personal robot for the family until it can interact AND protect them better than a big snarly hound. Otherwise it's just a toy.

Your missing the point of the unit.HapaHapa wrote:I don't need a personal robot for the family until it can interact AND protect them better than a big snarly hound. Otherwise it's just a toy.
These are developed for seniors or students who live alone. it's an interactive unit for them to communicate with. It's not designed for families (although it was showing a timer function)
They can't take care of dogs and the dogs don't talk back. Even if they only have two hundred words. It keeps the seniors minds active and prevents loneliness for students who may have a hard time adjusting
Yes they are very expensive, but far from a toy and they sell very well. A run of 10K of the other model sold out

Watched the first year until I found it was just fight club without the fighting. Once I saw what was behind the curtain. Wasn't all that interesting anymoreBBK357 wrote:Reminds me of the episode of Mr Robot last month where the lonely, single FBI agent who had conversations with her electronic companion before bed.

Any student who needs a robot to keep them company is well on their way to a mass killing. Old people, I get - sort of.
