Feedback needed ***UPDATED***
Feedback needed ***UPDATED***
I built a new website for our vacation cabin in North Carolina. We plan on using it 5-6 times a year for our personal use. We also have a property manager that will book and manage others wanting to rent it. This has been a dream of my wife and I to purchase a cabin like this. But making a little income to offset the mortgage wont hurt either.
I have gone through about 4 or 5 different versions of the website trying to find something I really like. Some feedback from you guys would be helpful. Keep in mind I am an amatuer at this.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Feedback needed
A picture is worth a thousand words. So I would use more pictures to illustrate the "wordy" pages. You can still use words, but as captions. Pictures evoke more emotion, and emotion is what makes people buy.
Nice place BTW.

Re: Feedback needed
Agree, I strongly suggest lots of pictures, especially of the interior. I almost never book an VRBO or airbnb rental without lots of pictures, unless the reviews are really good.

^^^Yeah, that too.Seppia wrote:Looks awesome congrats!
I strongly recommend you make your site adaptive.
A ton of Internet traffic comes via mobile, and as is, your site in unusable if accessed from my iPhone.
They're called "responsive" websites.
Re: Feedback needed
No problem.Seppia wrote:Lol yes sorry.
What's "adaptive"? English is not my first language so sometimes I screw it up a bit
That's just what the industry calls them. Responsive sites adapt to the device and orientation they are viewed with, PC, phone, tablet, etc. Saves the trouble of multiple site versions and device detection.
Re: Feedback needed
Ok I'm going to work on that. I thought since I have the pictures page that would suffice. I see your point though. So pictures of each of those places might be better?jaw wrote:A picture is worth a thousand words. So I would use more pictures to illustrate the "wordy" pages. Sure (if you want), but focus on Home and About pages first (lots of words there). Find pictures for what you're describing with words.hobbit712 wrote:Ok I'm going to work on that. You should play this song on your site, I bet you will get a ton of "bears and cubs" renting from you

Re: Feedback needed
Really beautiful place you have. I was able to view a lot of pictures from my phone even though it looked like more of a desktop view.
Re: Feedback needed
beyond the above, i recommend making that header graphic a lot smaller. half of the screen is taken up by a screened back image of the woods. probably 350-400 pixels high. scale it back to 200-250. then make the other images more prominent. it's all about the cabin.
Re: Feedback needed
- Smaller header image, definitely
- Add a map linked to Google maps so people can find it
- Add cabin size, number of bedrooms, and max sleeping capacity on front page
- Add a floorplan of the cabin with bedrooms and capacity marked.
- Reorder images to put interior shots earlier, too much exterior before you get to the inside
- Text blocks are center justified, which looks strange. Either left justify or full justify.
- Attractions should be organized by type
- Add information about how to get to the "kabin" from other major travel points or major cities/landmarks
- Front page text has a lot of stuff I wouldn't care about as a potential renter. I want to know if the location and size fit my needs first. Then I'll worry about the amenities and finer details. Think about how a potential renter is going to approach the site and what they will need to know up front. Don't expect someone to spend a lot of time on the site or click one of the links. If you can't hook them with the front page, they'll likely move on.
- Your choice, but the whole "kabin" thing is too cutesy for me

Agree with more photos per above. List amenities via butler points and not in a huge paragraph. Organize by:
Interior
Exterior
Area amenities.

Re: Feedback needed
Agree with comments above. Need lots of high quality photos on the first page. Interiors and 'lifestyle' pics - you need to sell the lifestyle.
People are short of attention, you need to grab them in the first 10 secs. Put the images on the opening page, and when they scroll down, they will be wowed - and that's it, you've hooked them!
Clicking around for pics is annoying, people will switch off immediately.

Re: Feedback needed
My wife and I rented a NC cabin for our honeymoon, based off a website - so we're probably your target market. I just looked on my iPhone and there's something very unnatural about scrolling right to see your pictures. I'd much rather have a bunch of them viewable so I can get an overal picture in my mind of the property. As it is, the place feels small since I'm looking at one isolated picture at a time. Consider a walkthrough video.hobbit712 wrote:Ok I'm going to work on that. I thought since I have the pictures page that would suffice. I see your point though. Re: Feedback needed
Thank you ALL for the great advice! Well except for you "krabby" MF'ers.
As for the name, I am stuck with it as the wife picked it. KCS are the initials of both our daughters hence KC's Kabin. She liked the play on the initials. What's a guy to do.
I am going to try and implement some of the changes hopefully by this weekend as I am working today and tomorrow.

The website works for me, but I'm not a stickler when it comes to shit like that. I just care what the place looks like that I would be renting, and your cabin is amazing.

I was looking at some ads on VRBO and AIRBNB. I can see where some of the above point are valid.

Re: Feedback needed ***UPDATED***
Ok it took a lot longer to update the website than I would have liked but I kept changing it.
I took a lot of the suggestions and tried to incorporate them into the site.
I am still working on a few tweaks. I am also still working on making in responsive. The new version of my website software does it but I dont think its handling mine properly. I have to work on that a bit more.
Anyway if you want to provide some more feedback I would appreciate it.

Mike have her go to the property manager link on the front page...it's cheaper than going thru AirBnB.
