Looking for a TV..
Re: Looking for a TV..
Thanks fellas for the replies. I've settled on a Samsung.
Most likely a 55" model.
Chris makes a good point about the Bluetooth - definitely an added convenience
I can get a curved set for the same price as a flat one so that's where I'm at now.

I'm a fan of the Vizio tvs. I have a 70" LED (non 4K) and it has one of the best pictures I've seen. I also have a 70" Sharp 4K and the 4K programming on Netflix is amazing, but I don't think the regular HD picture is as good as my Vizio.
Re: Looking for a TV..
I love Samsung but the smarthub is so fucking annoying.
What other systems requires you to wait 1-3 to start using it?

That's my opinion on Vizio. Have had the M series 60" for a couple of years, and directly compared pictures to Samsung, Sharp, even Panasonic Plasma. At the time Vizio won me over.Brimstone wrote:I'm a fan of the Vizio tvs. I have a 70" LED (non 4K) and it has one of the best pictures I've seen. Low end
Midrange
High end
On the flat screen TV / projector spectrum (Led,4K)
In short, at this point, cheap Chinese LCD will be your low end, guys who outsource their panels to lowest bidders. Midrange will be your 4k LED from top-tier manufacturers Samsung, Sony, and LG. High end will be curved OLED stuff, think $10k+ for an 85/90".

Just stick with Samsung and make sure it's their panel. You can tell by the numbers on the box.
Most others buy their panels for higher end stuff from Samsung and lower end from AUO China.
If you get a Samsung panel you got the best TV outside of LG OLED and such.
I wouldn't go with curved because it significantly limits viewing angles, unless you're watching TV by yourself dead center

That's an interesting point about the panels, Art. How am I able to differentiate between the panel manufacturers? I had heard Samsung outsources to Sharp as well which is fine but are the codes always the same on every set for the panel manufacturer?Panerai7 wrote:Just stick with Samsung and make sure it's their panel. Re: Looking for a TV..
Version code T, U, W xxx is Samsung, H is Sharp which is not too bad, and the rest is chinese buffet of various factories but mainly AUO
Problem is that with the same model number you could have a genuine Samsung panel or Chinese
You literally have to look at the box.
Only 8500 9000 series use Samsung panels exclusively .

That's all great info brother
Shit you don't even think about when shopping.
About the curved tv; ya I've thought about the limited viewing angles. I mainly think it's a gimmick but damn do they look sleek

Cheers bud. Hope you get a great one. Then make sure you calibrate it , makes a huge difference. Just Google calibration settings for your model number

Kidding aside, some great practical advice in this thread, that I will likely benefit from myself in the near future. Thanks all!
