I don't think that it's all that crazy compared to the usefulness derived.

Oh, I'd love to disconnect, and do it on occasion. It's just that my life doesn't allow me to do so easily, unfortunately.

I don't want to be disconnected .....
Re: Cell phone plan discussion?
Yeah, I struggle with the disconnect option. I usually take business calls up to around 6:30 but not before 7:45 unless it's a sub-contractor, partner, or employee.
I use so many online services and apps that cross populate across all my devices and partners to run my two companies I need data all the time.
I just dropped ATT and am on Google's FI project. I went from $140 to $94 and Google will credit back money on any unused data under the 8GB I chose.
The coolest is it sets up a VPN network for me auotmagically on an any public or open WiFi.
Basic phone and text is $50 and you use both sprint and TMO but you gotta have a nexus 6 to use service.

Balance is key, IMO. I don't need or desire to be connected all the time personally. Work is another matter and I need to be connected, even at night. So, I have to balance it by having coverage from my peers, when I choose to unplug; whether it be certain time periods in the evening or weekends, or full weeks of vacation. Being without a phone or internet is glorious.braeburn wrote:Yeah, I struggle with the disconnect option. All this and a great perspective.
I don't want to be connected all the time and strive not to be even in always plugged in and more so in my personal life.
I took on a partner (same partner from other alliances, we just merged business's to one). Much trepidation for this since my only previous partner was my wife.
Shortcutting a lot of shit on that story....having that allowed me to turn my phone off on vacation or the occasional day off. That is indeed glorious.
I'm still the everday go to guy in the company. I have people that call me at 7am and 8pm and leave me VM wondering why I don't answer.
Some days I just turn it all off at 2 on a Friday, Tuesday, or whatever day. The death of my dad at 70 and all I've put in and missed at nearly 50 made me pull the plug on the worldwidewebIV. I can now put it in airplane mode for hours and go do something else and not worry until the next day.
I see more and more people doing the same. I applaud that.
Truthfully, no one I know has ever been on their deathbed and wished they had worked more.

There's nothing that can't wait a little while, and if I can't call back right away there's three other people who probably know the answer. Don't be in a rush to answer that stupid little ringing doodad.

Re: Cell phone plan discussion?
I disconnect frequently, wholly.
On the other hand my connectivity needs to be absolute, so I pay well to have it. The amount of data I use is obscene: my cell is 60GB a month and my home is allocated at 1TB.
What can I say, I don't want to miss anything on DWC.

60GB a month? Damn. Putting your phone through marathon duty.

Holy cow! I've used 18gb in a month but I can't even wrap my head around 60. That's a lot of YouPorn!

Re: Cell phone plan discussion?
I do sprint. Its not the greatest coverage but does me well 90% of the time. Reason I keep it is because of unlimited data. I pay about $100 a month for unlimited everything. Will be switching to iPhone for life plan in a few weeks which is essentially lease program but will allow me to have the new iPhone whenever one comes out, all for same $20 a month for phone and $60 a month service.

Re: Cell phone plan discussion?
my wife uses around 1gb a month for work and that is all. if I don't have time to get on my laptop then it can wait. i fear that if I get "connected" then I will take away time from my wife/daughter and life in general

Re: Cell phone plan discussion?
I use my iPhone 5 for everything these days. My AT&T plan costs about $80 a month. It used to be twice that with grandfathered unlimited data but since I paid the phone off and told them I could get a cheaper plan from T-Mobile they lowered it and recently gave me more GBs for free.
Competition is good these days. I can't wait to dump Cable TV soon.

Made some changes to my Vzw account yesterday. Will see next month if the savings are real or not.
