Help guys- cancel cable and go all internet??

Due to time warner sending us a letter saying our promotion is up and the bill will now go up $8 My wife wants to cancel the cable and look into Hulu and whatever else. I am an amazon prime member but never used the tv portion and don't know what it consist of.

Background- my wife is a major Scrooge. I am not. I like to come home and turn on disney jr for the kids before bath/bed and I like my dvr for shows like south park, workaholics, archer, justified, naked and afraid, duel survival and some others.

Will I be giving all of this up by using amazon and hulu?

Ps/ movies and older series are not an issue, my buddy loads a ton of stuff on a big HD for me.

And we pay about $125 for cable, dvr service and internet. We usually only use one tv but have another in the basement/playroom that has cable-no dvr and had the HD on it.

I'm with you. I work nights so I like to come home to all my shows waiting for me on my DVR. I don't want to hunt things down on various internet services.

I'd do it in a heartbeat but lefty would miss stuff. We've been using apple Tv for the last 6 mos quite a bit. I'm working on cutting the ties to just Internet. We're about $168/mo here.

I use Netflix plus YouTube. My Internet bill is about $60 per month. Haven't regretted letting cable go.

I don't have cable. I rarely use the antenna either. We watch a lot of Netflix, but most of what our TV is used for is online gaming since my wife is a big fan of GTA online too.

Keep the cable. So worth it. DVRs>>>>hunting down shows online. Cut out one nice dinner out per month, and you've paid for it.

She watches a ton of shows. Little people, multiple wives..... Basically if they are midgets or polygamist she watches them.
And Kardashians.

Can't help you-- I'm like you and my cable is $200+/mo...

One thought is to call them up and see if there are any other deals-- there are always deals..
Comcast has always been cool about finding affordable packages..

We have satellite and either Roku or Apple TV on every TV. I can't let the tv go. I watch too much sports.
Between Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus and Netflix, the kids should be good, however, you will most likely still have to purchase some shows.

I'm not convinced that cutting the cable is the way to go.

+1 we have done this for the last 10 years and just got netflixs last year. CUT the cord guys!!!!! If enough people do it cable companies will drop their prices to what it should be.

As been said, sports is what's kept me from cutting cable completely.

What I see as a viable option Ben is canceling your current service and opening a new account under your wife or yourself (whoever isn't the account holder now) and that way you can get whatever number of discounts they're offering now for new customers.

It'll at least give you a year at a better price and that'll give you some time to think about your next move

The major cable providers are milking it for whatever they can get. $165 plus tax here for TWC with the HBO premium package.

They know what's going on. Cut the cable box and they stiff you for high-speed internet. You can't win. To sports, the fact is the cable companies are subsidizing player's mega salaries. Built in are monthly fees for ESPN, TNT, TBS, YES, MSG, SNY, and TWC's own sports channel .

I figure a few years ago some bright kid out of business school saw car sales declining and found a way to get similar payments out of the working slobs. There and phone plans.

It's the principle. A handful of cable providers are acting like a monopoly and forcing people to pay for what they don't want. It's like Obamacare.

Even though my wife is the Scrooge I see where she is coming from. It's not about how much but what you get for the money. If cable keeps this up I can't imagine the prices when I'm an old fart.

And btw my wife has no clue how much my watches cost. All a bunch of hundred dollar Seikos!

Watches are heaven sent goodness, all bought used of course at very low cost.
