Coin?
Coin?
You guys hear about this? I heard about it on the radio and just pre-ordered. Stick all your cards onto one card.
Use the referral link and you can get $5 per referral up to $50. Even w/o the bonus money, I'd be pre-ordering this bad boy. I hate having tons of stuff in my wallet. I already leave a bunch of stuff @ home just to avoid carrying it around. Kicker for me is that it'll work with gift cards too.

Yup. Gift cards is the big kicker for me. I mean really, who gives a Red Robin gift card as a gift????dukerules wrote:Interesting. I only carry three credit/ATM cards, but have lots of gift cards I never use, because I never have them with me.
Re: Coin?
Really cool gadget. Great for those with lots of cards.
So, I take it its only for swiping magnetic strips?
My cards have paypass system, which means no swipe, just contact and instant authorization.
Can this do that feature?
I know, I'll search for it. But if somebody knows...
Edit: Seems like its only for US. As they state it may not work outside of the US.
Also, only swiping cards. So no paypass or RFID.

I would like a little more security like a fingerprint reader. The phone Bluetooth thing is good if you leave it someplace, but doesn't help if someone steals your phone and Coin card.
Also, magnetic strip technology is getting pretty long in tooth, and mainly only in use in the US. Places in Europe and Asia typically use SmartCards. Many newer SmartCards are using protocols based on physical unclonable functions, so the Coin wouldn't be able to mimic them like it can with simple magnetic strips.

Re: Coin?
So, now when you hand over your card the bad guys can skim all of your accounts instead of just one? I'd like to hear how secure these really are.

How about just as secure but more convenient?foodle wrote:For $50, I'd like it to be more secure.matt.wu wrote:I don't see it as any less secure than the wallets you carry around every day...
Kinda like a car vs. walking? Or your computer vs. pen/paper? iPhone over two cans and a piece of string?

More like an iPhone vs an android.matt.wu wrote:How about just as secure but more convenient?foodle wrote:For $50, I'd like it to be more secure.matt.wu wrote:I don't see it as any less secure than the wallets you carry around every day...

Car is vastly higher performing than walking.matt.wu wrote:How about just as secure but more convenient?foodle wrote:For $50, I'd like it to be more secure.matt.wu wrote:I don't see it as any less secure than the wallets you carry around every day...

Computer can perform many more tasks than pen/paper.
iPhone is vastly higher performing and can perform many more tasks than two cans and a piece of string.
The above comparisons are not analogous.
I get the use of Coin if you juggle a lot of cards. I guess I just don't use enough card on a regular basis for this to be a significant convenience to me. But I can see how this could be a lot more convenient if you use a lot of different cards on a daily basis.

I'm not sure if I was a merchant that I would want to accept a plain black card. Many places now ask for your card and also input the security code.
