You would stil need the security code.sfglenrock wrote:I'm not sure if I was a merchant that I would want to accept a plain black card. Many places now ask for your card and also input the security code.

Re: Coin?
Starts shipping Summer 2014.
Q. Why are you charging me immediately for my pre-order?
A. Creating and manufacturing new devices is expensive. As a young company, being able to use the revenue from your pre-order to pay for things as we build them helps us reduce risk and helps ensure that we deliver the best possible product and customer service to you.
I'm in after they successfully launch. Is this a MKII project?

That analogy did pop into mind.

Re: Coin?
Been following, and it's an interesting concept. I can see the convenience, one question will be if they can add EMV (Europay Mastercard Visa) which uses a smart chip and is pretty much all you can use in most other parts of the world. It's coming to the US in 2015 (actually here in small bunches) and their FAQ says they will be looking to add it in the future. I think that is easier said than done, as getting certified with Visa or MC is pretty laborious.
Still, I really like the concept, though with the battery lasting only about 2 years, you'll need a new one approx. every 24 months at the normal $100 price. That's a bit steep. Though I may end up preordering one also just to keep up on the tech.

Re: Coin?
Yeah. It's definitely an extra expense, but it's perfect for me. I currently purposely will leave cards (ATM, extra CC, gift cards) at home because I don't want to carry them, so this will allow me to make sure I can carry all of them (at least 8 - more in the phone) with me at once.

… now if only I could find a fool-proof system of always getting a toy out of the claw machine in the front of the restaurant
Re: Coin?
The food was actually good, and I got a couple nice big beers with my salad and shared fish & chips, but if I didn't have a GC, there are a million other places within a 20 mile radius that I'd rather spend my money at.

Since the conductor already threw the rail switch on this thread, let me say that Red Robin rocks when you need to wolf down a very quick lunch/dinner combo and pound a couple of 22oz Mac n Jacks before accompanying your wife to the latest "Harry potter" or "hunger games" flick, 7pm showing.
Try that shit at your favorite 4 star upriver grill place, and you'll either go hungry, sober, late, or all three.
Red Robin: the leatherman multi of restaurants. Not the most elegant tool, but you'll be damn glad to find a good one on hand when you need it.

Re: Coin?
I like it in theory.
what if the red robin server takes my card and unkowingly changes the card selection by touching the button when they swipe it or just handle it? do you have to put in a pin each time to change what card is in use?
and second, 30241 is not exactly cosmopolitan so I would be probably be asked to leave for tying to scam them by this "phoney looking" credit card.
