Yea, me too, but as I mentioned before since mine is apparently arriving via UPS, it's most likely going to be later in the day. Damn it!

I hope so. I just read the Engadget review of iOS6 and the Apple maps app looks like it leaves a lot to be desired compared to what I'm used to on Gingerbread with Google Maps.ikkoku wrote:I hear Google is planning on releasing one...ezcheese wrote:Is there still an option to download Google Maps on the iPhone?

Re: iPhone 5 event... anyone following it?
Well google maps on IOS never had turn by turn... and basically google didn't do much in terms of dev for google maps (for IOS) after the original iphone.ezcheese wrote:I hope so. So if you look at Android google maps and IOS google maps, they are night and day in terms of functionality.
With IOS6, Apple is playing catchup to the features google maps offers to Android users, but it's way ahead of what IOS users are used to.

Yeah Apple kind of screwed itself in believing that Google would maintain feature parity. They also dumped the youtube app.

switching to the iphone 5, in light of the talk about Google maps, will be a challenge if only for a while. I do like the navigation feature available with the droid phones. If google maps do become available for IOS 6, fantastic.

Guys if you want a great gps maps with turn by turn , use Mapquest.
Its a free app......is great for maps and full turn by turn GPS.
I have been using for a year.
I wont be using the new maps on Iphone until they make it better, right now, its not so good , so I will stick with Mapquest.

Re: iPhone 5 event... anyone following it?
I'm going to see how the maps are myself, then decide if I think they suck. I mean, it's a map, how hard can it be? While things like google street view are cool, 98% of the time I just need the GPS to deliver me to the proper address. Anything else is a bonus for me.
Brad....as much bitching and trouble you have had with your phone, it's the maps that are going to keep you from ditching that junk and moving to the iPhone 5?
Come on bro...make the switch already.

Oh hell no! I'd switch even without GPS. I was just curious about the maps feature. I already use an iphone 4 for work And I didn't know mapquest had an app. Or maybe that's just using the browser?

Ah, didn't know you were already an iPhone user. So at least you have something to compare to your Evo. Cool man.

Yeah, I am still a little concerned in that regard. I have a dock for my Droid Charge and I use navigation frequently when I travel out of town. Android's navigation is pretty damn good.BSears wrote:switching to the iphone 5, in light of the talk about Google maps, will be a challenge if only for a while. This one's for you.BSears wrote:In Louisville, you say?SCM64 wrote:Ok, if you haven't received your shipping email yet, you can go to UPS.com and "search by reference". Enter your phone number, and it should show your progress!
Mine left China on the 16th, hit Hong Kong, then Korea, Anchorage and is in Louisville, KY right now.
Sweet!
Didn't get on the pre-order for this from Sprint, but since I hate my Evo 4G with a passion that rivals hell, I will be visiting the Sprint store in the next month. Oh, and my Evo's camera crapped out on me last night. have i mentioned this is my 4th Evo 4G? Have I mentioned I hate the Evo 4G?

Given how long mine's been sitting in Kentucky I could've had it yesterday. I guess Apple is having them sit so they can all go out on Friday.

Yep. Dammed if FedEx didn't sit on it for a 21st delivery. I showed it in transit for an overnight delivery since the 18th. Fuckers.
Re: iPhone 5 event... anyone following it?
Well, hopping in line at Verizon at 6am. Hope that's early enough. Got in too late on the preorder so figured I would chance it at the store. I've got a 4s so if I can't get it this week I'll just download ios6 and sit tight until one comes available. Make sure you guys give some first impressions when you get it.

Re: iPhone 5 event... anyone following it?
Oh, and Apple is getting HAMMERED on their Maps app. Looks like they are going to have some egg on their face till they get them up tp speed. I little embarassing honestly. I took a look at downtown Tampa on my work iPad3...and there is no depth at all, looks like there are no tall buildings at all.
I'll give the maps a run through drivng around this weekend, but for early users, looks like we might want to grab that Mapquest app and keep it handy for a while.

Re: iPhone 5 event... anyone following it?
I use a GPS App... GPS drive. Works so much better than any of the map apps built into either phone. Realtime traffic integrated into a full function GPS... plus the benefit of being internet updated.
Bad ass.
