Google Introduces Nexus 7 Tablet
Google Introduces Nexus 7 Tablet
Someone hacked Google Play and copied the store display before it has had a chance to go live:

7" 1280x800 is very tempting. Wish I didn't buy my Galaxy 7 Plus 2 so soon. I could use the extra resolution.
Re: Google Introduces Nexus 7 Tablet
It has GPS. What it lacks is a rear facing camera, expandable memory (read, no micro SD card slot), and no mobile connectivity (it is strictly WIFI). It also seems to be encapsulated, so no word yet on your ability to change your own battery.ikkoku wrote:are there any major differences from the Eee Pad MeMO 370T?

Other than that it is a pretty high end little device at a really good price. Not only does it out do the Kindle fire by a very wide margin spec and design wise, but software wise as well. By adding it's own media library, it has basically taken the only edge that the fire had going for it, and unlike the fire, it is not requiring and $80 prime membership to allow you to use it. That plus if you want, you can still upload the kindle app (as well as nook, kobo and any number of other book/magazine apps).
I would opt for the 16GB version since I plan on commuting with it a fair bit and won't be relying much on cloud storage.
Re: Google Introduces Nexus 7 Tablet
16GB is the way to go... can't really compare it to the Fire tho since that is a generation ago. We'll see how the new Fire will hold up.
Re: Google Introduces Nexus 7 Tablet
I have been thinking of buying a used tablet for my 5 year old so he doesn't break mine. That price makes this one very tempting.

Damn no microsd slot? That's stupid.
Re: Google Introduces Nexus 7 Tablet
I thought the same thing until I checked the available memory on my GN and my Prime (32GB and 64GB respectively). both are chuck filled with apps and books, and the GN has a bunch of music as well. I don't think either broke 7GB in total memory used. As i see it the only thing that will eat up 16GB of memory is if you fill it full of RAW image files, movies or weeks worth of music. For that kind of stuff though Google has Google Drive to allow you to store that kind of stuff on line. I wouldn't get the 8GB, but the 16GB one should be more than adequate for most uses.FlyPenFly wrote:Damn no microsd slot? That's stupid.

Well 32gb micro sd's are stupid cheap now so I back up my photos when I'm traveling to MicroSD. This is probably a deal breaker but I still have one on order.

Here is a good article that explains Google's reasons for removing MSD cards from their nexus devices:

Basically it boils down to increasing on board storage in order to get better performance while pushing cloud storage. At the same time, provided you have a MUSB connection you can use the device's HD as movable storage. I think that with the & what they've done is ensure that the 16GB model becomes the go-to model for most buyers.
