USLA Gulfman
USLA Gulfman
This is the USLA Gulfman, released in 1999. It commemorates the United States Lifeguard Association Championships held that year in Cape May, New Jersey. I found it on the auction site Yahoo Japan. Previously, I had been looking for it on a Japanese site owned by Seiya. His site had been recommended as a reliable Japanese source of G-Shocks.
It turns out that Seiya successfully bid on the Gulfman for me, and for a small commission secured it and sent it to the US. It cost me about $30 less than a similar one sold for on WUS a couple weeks earlier, that I missed by...well, not much.
It came in inner and outer cardboard boxes with USLA stickers. That's my old Acme Thunderer, made in England, alongside. They stopped making these out of steel and cork many years ago, and whistles are now produced in plastic. Needless to say, it's very loud.
Though it's over 10 years old, it came charged and running. The battery is solar charged.
It fits my wrist better than the Frogman, with minimal lateral gapping.
It's actually yellow and olive. The strap is very comfortable.
Big buttons.
Titanium back, 200M WR.
When lit, the USLA logo is visible.
When I read about these, I was determined to find one. As a very ex-lifeguard, it seemed like a natural.

That's a sweet Gulfman! I think it looks better than the current gen Gulfman! I have the solar/atomic one.

Congrats Jay. I am glad to see a former life guard have a piece of his past revived in a watch.

That's cool Jay. I just won an orange Gulfman on ebay. I hope I like the size.

Thanks guys.
Chris, I think you'll be very happy with the size of the Gulfman.

Jay, that's a badass G! Cool you got one with some connection to you, too. With all the G buzz lately, I'm hankering for that atomic/solar froggie again.
