When Did G-Shock Prices Go Insane?

Post by dshap » Wed Jul 27, 2016 2:11 pm

I haven't bought any G's in a while, but now I'm looking for a new one and checking out the current models. Frogmen list for over a grand, and cool Rangemen are around $500. WTF?! I thought Frogmen were expensive when they were a couple hundred, but now...

What's going on?

Not sure, but I know that Adam has a TON of the new Rangeman models...I blame him and envy him for having them.

Thanks, Obama.

Is that the one that came with the vibrating buttplug that can withstand a 100m drop and is 300m WR?

Dude, even I'm priced out of the market now. Whether it's the cool JDM LE stuff or domestic Frogs for over $1K, I'm done.

New watch prices are stupid, vintage watch prices are stupid, and now GShock prices are stupid.

Watches aren't fun anymore.

Couldn't agree more. Which is why new and vintage (most anyway) Seiko prices are so refreshing these days.

I couldn't agree more. I've really enjoyed the 3 NAFTs I have. I'd buy more if they came out with an orange one.

Really? Some are very expensive but I think they have a few really great values.

Are we talking retail and LE G pricing? The standard models are still $200-400 range ish. It's the fancy color options that cost more than I got for my Pontiac from that used car place.

The G-Shock prices are nuts. I always wanted a solar/atomic Frogman, but by the time they existed the price was enough to give me a coronary for a molded resin watch.

Those were $150ish a year or two ago.

It's been part of a concerted effort on their part to slowly nudge their average retail prices up. Yes, you can still get a basic G-Shock on Amazon for around $40-$60, but for the new stuff, like the G-Steels, Mudmasters, Rangemen, Frogmen, etc, you can expect to dig deep in your wallet. And that's not even talking about what's going on in the JDM LE market...

Regards,
Adam

PS - FWIW, the Frogs sport solid steel screwback cases; they're just wrapped in rubber for protection.
