How do you clean your G-Shock

Post by biggbuzz » Mon Apr 27, 2015 8:03 pm

I've got an orange GX-56. Looks great, but the case/band absorbs dirt and even body oil. The best industrial cleaners/degreasers I can get my hands on do not remove the stains. What do you do? Thanx - Michael

Try a Magic Eraser. Or just forget about it.

I hose mine off after mountain biking the get the dirt out. If the band starts to smell I wash it with soap & water... that's about it.

The stain isn't on the surface, you could say it becomes a part of the band. There's probably no getting it out without damaging/aging the band and making it brittle. Ignore or replace.

speaking of g shocks, my battery just died..is it simple enough to bring to any jeweler to swap the battery? I presume it would be simple.

Dude change them yourself. It's easy to do. You won't even need two screwdrivers!

... though, just for comforts sake, I'd have a spare screwdriver around. It's just a good habit ;)

But yes, do it your-damn self Eric! :htfu:

Do it yourself, just make sure you seat the gasket correctly afterward. It may seem obvious but I flooded one of my G's this way a few years back

It isn't to hard at all and there are tutorials all over the net, I just did one in my older G-shock and it used a 2016 battery and I was able to get that at walmart. Just one thing I would recommend is to put some silicon lube on the gasket if you can. Mine was super dried up.

Will silicone based fishing reel oil suffice for the gasket, or does it need to be more viscous?

A wee bit more viscous.

Take that sucker apart! There is more shit trapped under that bezel than you will believe. You can of course remove the screw, but be careful not to strip them. Another way is the leave the screws in a pry the bezel off. It works just fine and you don't have to worry about the screws. From there it is just soap and water
