Thoughts on GW5000

Post by Americandave » Sat Jul 21, 2018 3:27 am

I’m currently thinking of buying one from Seiya - any current or former owners want to weigh in? It’s expensive for a g shock quartz but has a ton of features. I’d appreciate some first hand views

It’s the same as the All Metal, minus the Bluetooth. While the All Metal is very pricey, I do love it and have been wearing it a lot. I don’t know if I would pay $300 for the rubber version, but if you plan on beating it up or don’t want something that will get scratched that you have to brush from time to time, go for it.

Granted there are cheaper square versions out there.

Here’s my full review and video on the Metal one.

GW5000 band after 18 months.jpg
The band is more supple than the 5600, but my GW-5000-1JF bought new in FEB2017 already has cosmetic surface cracking on the band and the most frequently used adjustment hole is beginning to tear. I just this week ordered a new band for $25. Still, I very much abuse my watches and have worn this 5000 constantly for 18 months.

The display is very clear, and the more muted coloration of the face is in my opinion less garish than the 5600. While making the watch a bit heavy on the wrist compared to the 5600, the screw-down case back is reassuringly solid and promises to be more reliable in the long term.

Would I do it over again? Yes.

Just got this one from Seiya about two hours ago. My first G-shock. Better than I expected so far.

OK G-experts....

If I want these features, which model is it?

- best STN display

- all black case as above (no white letters)

- ability to use Nato adapters

- screw back

- ideally titanium or metal, keeping with all black if possible (if not resin is ok)

???

GMWB5000G. Comes on a rubber band as opposed to full metal bracelet

Also, about the commercial I can neither confirm nor deny Image

Thanks. I think I’d want a square one tho. I had the OG one when it was released.

I’d prefer sapphire glass too.

Not sure I even need to go down this rabbit hole.

The one RPalace posted is the one you want. Like he said, the regular display is available on a rubber strap.
No sapphire though. At this point only metal squares with sapphire are titanium and that’s the camo and the black and gold. I do not know if replacement sapphire crystals for modding are available.
This same one has been on my list for awhile. Price fluctuates though as a few weeks ago it was $389.

If you want the stn display you have to go with the newer “all metal” Gs.
You don’t need sapphire/ I used to have a screen protector on my GW5000. Took it off and I’ve been wearing it outside building the play fort. Not one scratch.
