Bunch o' new straps

Post by ChuckW » Mon Jan 27, 2020 6:54 pm

I recently did a fire sale on straps I don't wear and set out to find some that would suit my needs. The assortment consists of two piece straps and single pass throughs from several vendors

Steveo Para Canvas (had my own buckle) for a little funkiness. Pretty stiff when it arrived, but breaking in nicely.

I really like both of the single pass through straps from Haveston. They're comfortable and look great. Moderately priced and nice value.

Ordered a variety from cheapnatostraps. As the name implies, they're pretty inexpensive with some hits and a couple misses. First the winners:

For the money, the two piece canvas straps (dark grey and brown) can't be beat. Sure, they're not in the same league as Drunkart or Redrock, but they're 13 bucks before any discount.

I was pleasantly surprised by the elastic single pass through straps. They have a large variety of 'em and they're on sale for $6. I may pick up a few more of these.

The Kvarnsjö Tanned strap is comfy w/ quick release spring bars. I like that many of their two piece straps are available in long.

I bought this sharktooth single pass through to get something with a little more color.

Now for the losers. The Paratrooper is their version of a parachute strap. If they're all as difficult to adjust and put on as this one, I don't want any. What a pain in the ass!

The canvas velcro strap is a disappointment because for the life of me, I can't can't figure out any way to wear it so it doesn't look like shit.

No, it's not Tourettes.

How soft / flexible are the single pass through straps from Haveston?

Both are thin and flexible and can slip in without removing the spring bars, even on the Glycine, which has shorter lugs than the Hammy. The leather one is incredibly soft. They have one floating keeper.

I rotate the canvas and the nylon out all the time on the Seaforth. There really isn't any break in period with either one of those. They are great right out of the box.

This thread persuaded me to get a couple of the Corp Canvass Series "single pass" staps from Haveston.

I wrongly assumed that Haverston were USA based, but they are in the UK.

Anyway, the straps come very nicely packaged.

The thickness on the main part of the strap is just above the Zulu I had on my Aerospace previously, so I removed the spring bars to fit the strap.

Image

The double thickness section at the buckle end is not necessary in my view & bulks the strap up too much. Its only function is to retain the floating keeper, so I've removed it.

Given the straps are brand new, they are pretty flexible and sit quite nicely already.

They will obviously soften up further once fully broken in.

All in all, I'm very pleased.

Thanks Chuck
