“Vintage” Canvas strap question

Post by manitoujoe » Sat Apr 14, 2018 7:48 pm

So I ordered a “vintage” canvas strap on WUS and the dude made one for me. Came in today and really looked dirty and kinda creepy.

The worn look is fine. I expected it. But it looks honestly dirty. I shot him a PM asking if the material was cleaned before he made the strap.

He said it was part of the look and should be fine. Lol it’s kinda effing gross.

So what’s a good recommendation to clean the funk off the strap without ruining it?

Here’s the original listing. Mine is the single pass strap. He had to make a new one.

Those look nothing like what's in the ad. To me it looks like he sent you a very used one instead.

He said he MADE it fresh for me from the material he used for the other one. If I’m honest I didn’t even want to touch it to take those pics. I scooped it up with that envelope lol.

At closer pics that canvas material looks broken. This isn’t something I can just clean and use, is it?

I just sent him those same pics and a refund request. I’m hesitant to ship it back because I don’t want him selling it to some other guy like me. Oh and I don’t want to touch it either.

I’ve washed my hands twice since I started this thread and Purell’d three times. Lol

I don't think it looks much/if any different from the ad. It's a turd, but I would've never sent the funds based on the ad's pics.

Good news. He’s working to fix the situation. I’m glad it wasn’t just me. That canvas strap was gross.

I had one custom made by the same seller as well. Mine wasn't dirty or ratty, just faded and worn looking, which I liked. Decided to go with another on the watch I bought it for, so added a buckle and sold it here at a slight loss. Guess I was lucky, as I wouldn't accept the one in your pics either.

Dish soap. Wash it. Wear it. Get over it.

Looks like it was made from one of those WW2 vintage surplus canvas tents my Boy Scout troop had back when I was a kid. Those things smelled awful.

I would hand wash it with a gentle soap as suggested above.

Looks like garbage sorry. I personally would not accept that dogs dinner of a strap. It looks like it went thru a lawn mower.
